Exquisite and Rare Antique French Wedding Crown ..dating to the 1800's and brought back from France.
This Globe de Mariee features gilt metal and red velvet sitting on a black ebonized wooden base. A tradition for those who could afford them that started in the 1800's, it's beautifully embellished with gilded leaves, flowers, birds and beveled Mirrors that symbolize aspects of happiness and prosperity in a marriage. The Bridal Tiara is pinned to the velvet cushion after the ceremony by the bride, and the mirrors, birds etc symbolize the wish for prosperity, children and a long blissfulll wedded life.
This is in good condition for the age with some expected patina to the all of the components and the glass dome is no longer with this piece as often the case due to age. Additionally the piece is tilted back a bit and could likely be straightened if you'd like to try, just pointing that out...but it's really fine as is.
Measures a LARGE 15" tall by 12" wide...
I have not seen one more elaborate and beautifullly detailed....brought back carefully for you from me on the latest buying trip to France.
