Beautiful French Country House Tour (In France)!

In this post you’ll take a beautiful French country house tour located within a short train ride from Paris. The home belongs to a dear friend and I’ve featured her previous home before. Clearly we still can’t travel internationally, it’s such a pleasure to tour homes abroad. My husband and I are usually over in France in May, but for now…let’s tour!

Just a brief history that the French country house tour you’re about to see belongs to Tania Boureau. She used to blog and that is how we met, many years ago. Tania had emailed me one day letting me know that her work was going to be bringing her to Miami on a regular basis. We met for coffee and the rest is history. We’ve gotten together many times both here in Miami (where I live) in France and even took a girl’s trip to NYC!

Since I shared her home in the past that she named Grange de Charme (charming barn) life has changed for Tania. She had struggles with cancer and had gone through a divorce and has come out all the better on the other side! Due to the divorce, Tania had to sell her beloved home where she raised her family. 😥 Wanting to stay close to her parents , she found this new to her beauty to renovate! 🥰 Let’s get right into it…with lots of photos to inspire!!

It took some looking to find just the right home to renovate, and with renovations in the French winter it was a challenge. Like my own home, Tania was drawn to the land that surrounded her home to be!

If you’ve ever watched the series Escape To The Chateau, it details the many challenges of reviving a centuries old home. We don’t have anything really like this to any degree in the US, so it’s quite fascinating! Watch it…I guarantee that you’ll be hooked, as I was! But I digress back to Tania’s new/old home that was faced with the common challenges.

From winter to spring and time for Tania to get into her 1/2 acre garden!

I was so impressed to learn that it only took Tania and her crew 6 months to update her home to move in condition! While the rooms with the old wallpaper and paint look lovely, there was a lot hiding behind those walls that above all needed repair.

Before Renovation – French Country House Tour

It was on a hot day of August and I could feel the freshness of the river, the wind through the trees of the old orchard it was a dream!

When I saw this place, I knew that I had found my house!

Behind the facade was hidden damage, with the walls and the ceilings in rough shape!

Obviously there were lots of charming details!

It’s a very old house and the rooms were originally small.

I made one big living room from the kitchen the dining room and the living room.

Here you can see some of the mold and damage behind the walls.

Lots of renovation had to be done from updating the electrical to repairing the walls and the ceilings, and sanding the floors upstairs.

There was so much damage, including a water leak in the roof, a gas leak, and blocked sewers!

Tania will be embarking on more renovations later such as a wooden floor downstairs, because the floor is damaged.

After Renovation! – French Country House Tour

My bedroom is the most spectacular room in the house! It was the billiard room with very high ceilings and a big window open to a balcony overviewing the garden down to the river.

Tania has a decidedly romantic style and loves the color pink, along with ruffles and shabby chic. In fact she was featured in Rachel Ashwell’s book My Floral Affair.

Tania is an artist that creates the most beautiful floral crowns and silk roses! You can find here work available in her Etsy Shop here – Grange de Charme Etsy

The Main Level in Tania’s Home

Clearly, opening up the walls was so smart and without a doubt makes the home feel so spacious!

Tania is best friends with the French artist Laurence Amelie and has many of her beautiful paintings! My husband and I were fortunate to visit Laurence’s old home along with Tania several years ago. I blogged about her home in this post if you’d like to see it!

Last but not least, I feel at home now. I don’t miss my Grange de Charme and I never would have thought that!

  1. This is without a doubt the most amazing home I have ever seen. This woman exudes love and creativity from her very soul!
Thank you so very much for sharing this! I singed up to your site just a few weeks ago. I have followed you for years. I love all the things that you share!
I about to take a journey on the acquisition of a property that will lead me to building a home from the ground up and I have all of these ideas in my files now to help me on my way.
    From my heart to yours!

    1. I could definitely move right in here!! Thank you so much for being a reader Kim! xo

  2. Beautiful results! Escape to the Chateau is my favorite TV program….I love this family and get such a calmed feeling every week. The transformations of both homes is just thrilling to this Canadian gal.

    1. Thanks for stopping by…much appreciated, even if I don’t get around to answering every comment! xo

  3. What a beautiful canvas she has and it looks pretty clear to mr that she knows what she’s doing! Love looking at how Tania finishes up with this project in the end. Can’t wait to see it!

    1. She is so talented Lori and I’m glad that you stopped by!

  4. What a stunning building! Just the facade is enough to make me weak in the knees. I was knocked out by the exquisite – and bold! – papers that were on the walls. Clearly, not her style, even if they didn’t need removal for repairs; I would have saved as much as possible and found some way of using them (perhaps large moulding framed areas of paper?). Her bedroom/studio is so warm and cozy – I’m surprised she bother designing the rest of the house – I mean, who needs any other room? LOL
Escape to the Chateau – ah! My absolute favorite show! Dick and Angel are my new (imaginary) best friends LOL. I envy his knowledge and skills – and energy! – and I am mad for her design aesthetic: historic, vintage, whimsical and romantic all whirled into a faery tale setting. I loved what she did with her collection of vintage wallpapers (the harlequin design) – and her own beekeeper paper (which is for sale on perigold!) is gorgeous!
Thanks for this terrific tour – as you can tell from the length of this post, I was thrilled with it LOL.

    1. I have watched it..and did you know that there is an Escape To The Chateau DIY show as well?!!

    1. Indeed…and happy birthday Kris!

  5. I went wild over her first home and I am so sorry she was not able to keep it, however, this one is just as beautiful and as time goes by I’m sure she will make it more and more her own. I’m in love with the painted glass doors and have one I’m going to treat the same way. Thank you for showing these gorgeous homes and continuing to inspire us.

    1. I’ve known her in real life for a number of years, so yes…that was sad. Things are turning around though and I couldn’t be more pleased for Tania!

  6. Absolutely beautiful! So happy that Tania was able to overcome her challenges and now reigns supreme. I saw her previous post some time ago and loved it, her creations are stunning! Thank you for sharing this beautiful home 😘🥰.

    1. I’m really happy for her…she’s a lovely friend and so talented!

    1. I’m so glad to “bring you there”…even if it’s virtual!

  8. As I was reading this article all I could think about was the show Escape to the Chateau! How wonderful to my surprise to see your reference later in the article. I love your decorating style and love reading your blog. It’s inspiring to see so many pictures. ❤️

    1. I love that show! Have you watched Escape To The Chateau DIY?

  9. What a pleasant way to spend this morning. I’m sitting here with my husband having coffee and looking through this post. We both watch an,d love Escape to the Chateau, in fact we spent a good part of yesterday afternoon catching up on some we missed. We will definitely look for the DIY version.
But all that aside, it is inspiring to see the perseverance of someone that has gone through such loss. I too, love that pink that shows up in countless places and am so happy to she has landed in a good place.

    1. I’m so glad to hear that you and your husband enjoyed this tour Margo. Tania is a dear real life friend of mine and she totally deserves every last bit of her newfound happiness, indeed! The door has a painted canvas on it and I believe that it was there when she purchased the home.

Be prepared to be hooked on Escape DIY…it’s fascinating!

  10. Just one more thing, do you know if the floral motif is painted directly on the door, or if there is some sort of thin canvas which is adhered to the door?
    Thank you!

  11. I was hoping the cream/black floors would be kept. They lend so much character to a beautiful space. This is romantic, shabby and a place well loved. Smiles all around.

    1. I was hoping that she could have kept the wallpaper when she first told me about this home! Alas, mold can’t be left but she did an amazing restoration job!

  12. Ashley Bergstsrom says:

I recently bought a flower crown from Tania. It is so pretty! She is the sweetest person and was such a joy to work with in creating my flower crown. Attention to detail and communication was excellent. She took my special order and made the color of the crown as I requested to match my antique dishes. Clearly each step was done with love and passion.

Her home is so lovely Janet. The pictures are so much fun to look at and study the details. She clearly has a treasure. You are blessed I feel to know her personally and to have had the opportunity to visit her awesome home. Hope your readers will check out her ETSY site to see her creations. They won’t be disappointed. Eye candy like her home.

Again, thank you for a wonderful post!!

    Totally beautiful!

  14. When can I move in? This makeover is absolutely stunning! It’s like she took everything I love & brought it all to life…down to the pink roses. So romantic, whimsical, airy, bright…all in one. That definitely took a lot of hard work. The end result depicts the labor of love that went into it. So worth every effort. Beautiful!

    1. I am so glad that you enjoyed this one Sally!

  15. I’m so happy she kept the harlequin floor (not sure what that is called). It is a shame she couldn’t keep some of the wallpaper. Everything turned out so pretty and inviting. Love all of it.

    1. I agree and I know that she saved what she could in that house Diana

  16. This house is beautiful. I wouldn’t change a thing. I love all the roses she makes. The pale green doors are beautiful.

    1. She’s so talented DaleAnn

    1. I totally agree Annie!

  17. So beautiful! Everything!
