Christmas Home Tour – Simple Natural Style
My Christmas home tour begins! I couldn’t be more excited to share the simple, natural elegance in the master bedroom today! I’ve been decorating for the holiday season for decades (like many of you). It makes me happy to do a different look every year, but not necessarily shop a whole lot, other than in my own bins! That being said, if you do need anything new for the holidays take note. I fully expect Christmas decorations to sell out quickly this year, more than ever before! People are home and they are shopping online. I can also tell you that shipping can be painfully slow right now and things that sell out will likely not be restocked in time for Christmas. But that said…let me share what is new and what I’ve done to create this look!
Christmas Home Tour In The Master Bedroom
Christmas Tree
I always have a loose plan in my head for the look that I want to achieve before I even put up the trees in my home. My favorite trees are the flocked ones and HERE’S one on a Black Friday special that is highly rated and will come quickly!
Last year I used the same tree in the Christmas home tour that you can see HERE. I also have a beautiful WHITE CHRISTMAS TREE and in THIS POST have some great tips about decorating white Christmas trees. I think that you’ll love the info!
First thing that I did was to bring the tree in from the garage and roll down the Christmas tree storage bag. Let me tell you that the proper storage bag saves your tree (and sanity!) from any damage and is a great investment! It keeps the flocking intact and the tree can stand up discreetly in your garage or basement! Here is the one I have – Christmas Tree Storage Bag.
Once it was in place I covered the rolled down storage bag and fluffed out the branches. That didn’t take very long…only about 20 minutes due thanks to storing in that bag! Next I covered the rolled down bag with a faux fur Christmas Tree Skirt. I know that everyone has a different way of doing things, but I do this first to catch any ornaments that may drop and smash. However, I did ultimately opt to use shatterproof ornaments this year for the ease.

Ornaments
The ornament colors I am using in my Christmas home tour this year are all matte metallic! Nothing shiny and in colors of champagne, soft gold and silver and some white. I bought these in the largest size container that I could find a few years ago. When the holiday season is over I simply drop them all into a plastic bin marked “shatterproof metallic ornaments”. Storing by color and type definitely helps!

I should mention that before I put the ornaments on the tree I added ribbon. Again, some designers do this first and some do it after adding ornaments. I always find it easier to put the ribbon on first! My method is to cut the ribbon into pieces about the span of my outstretched arms. Then start near the top of the tree and tuck the first pieces deeply inside the tree and let the ribbon gently cascade down and tuck. * TIP* Always use wired ribbon for this or you won’t be able to properly shape it!! Just keep going with your pieces of ribbon and fill in the holes.

I love tinsel and it’s shiny old fashioned glow. While I tend to use restraint in every way, I do love a bit of that glitz! Etsy is a good source for vintage tinsel and I’m linking a few shops below.
That’s it and I’d say the entire tree took me no more than an hour to decorate. I didn’t do the back of the tree, since it’s up close the French doors in the bedroom (why bother!).
STEP BACK AND LOOK AT YOUR TREE TO SEE HOW THINGS LOOK! Then edit and fix things as necessary.
Fireplace Mantel
Next came the fireplace mantel and firebox (faux…I live in Miami!). It’s pretty simple and for this Christmas home tour I didn’t want anything too fussy. I draped a flocked faux garland without lights on it, as I wanted to use my fairy lights which give such a great glow! The exact garland that I used is THIS ONE. I’m waiting for THIS ONE to be shipped and will be using it in the living room. It does have lights and is so gorgeous!

In the firebox are some real birch logs and fairly lights. You can find a great deal on birch logs HERE and the fairy lights that I use I purchased HERE.
The mirror is a recent purchase but it’s not available now. I used some of THIS PAINT to give it a gilded look! The sconces are antique French pieces so I can’t give you a true source. For this Christmas home tour I made the bell garland and it was the easiest project ever! The bells are already completely sold out, but you can find similar looking bells HERE.
French Chair And Mirrors
On the chair with my sweet Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Darby & Bartley! Keep in mind that this was last year and a lot has changed with the dog’s health unfortunately. I’ll be updating you soon. 😔
As you may have noticed… I LOVE MIRRORS! One day I need to take count on how many I have, haha! Both of these mirrors are from Ballard Designs. The ornate mirror that is in the front I’ve had for over 20 years, so it’s been long discontinued. Once we put up the MIRRORED BARN DOORS I needed a new place for it, so here it is and looking good!
The Bed Area
Since the bed takes up such a large part of a bedroom, don’t forget to spruce it up a bit for the holidays! I haven’t really done that myself, but I’ll probably add a pillow or throw soon that imparts a natural holiday elegance to this area. In the meantime, we are using my favorite pale blue quilt that has been on the bed ever since I received it! Find it HERE (color is SKY) and if you’re looking for quality bedding you can’t go wrong with Serena & Lily. Bedding is one area that I believe in investing in for a better sleep, comfort and durability.
Artwork
Above the bed is a reproduction of a French painting that I had made. Yes, I had it recreated and you might find this post useful – Free Art Images (The Inside Scoop).
The little blue nightstand is an antique French piece that’s over 100 years old! I purchased it years ago at a flea market from an old gentleman who sold it to me for $10 because it had no top! I designed a top to fit it and took it to a local marble fabricator who made the top for me out of pink marble. While waiting for the top I painted and distressed (don’t fret…the wood was damaged) with a pale blue milk paint. I LOVE this little table to this day and likely will always be a keeper! Keep your eyes wide open because you never know what you will find!
Some religious items for this Christmas home tour sit on top of the table, simply because I love the look.

Janet, you really knocked it out of the ballpark this year! This is simply stunning … I love every single thing about it! I’m mad for the elegant, glamorous, appropriate tree decorations and the superb way you’ve decked out the ‘fireplace. ‘ What a wonderful place to spend some quiet time during the bustle of the season.
Now, I’m off to Etsy to find vintage tinsel … which is one of my go-to glitz treasures!
Thanks for sharing your holiday bedroom!
Awwww, you’re the best Tristan and I have some more holiday posts to share with you soon! ❤️
Thanks for the tour Janet. It gave me some decorating ideas. Your home looks lovely!
I’m so glad that you found this tour to be inspiring Lorrie! ❤️
Janet,
Thank you for all the tips and links… this is especially timely this year as I’ve been searching for several of the Christmas tree items you’ve linked! Great job with all the help. I’m working on a blue and white tree for my dinning area, your older post on white trees was invaluable 💙🤍💙🤍in gratitude, Janet M.
I’m so glad that you found these tips helpful Janet! More coming as I work on finishing up some decor to shoot around here. xo Janet
Stunning Janet. Everything is so beautiful. Love seeing your sweet pups enjoying your decor too.
Happy Sunday. xoxo Kris
Thank you so much Kris…enjoy your week! xo
Beautiful, as usual! Love the pups.. 🙂
Wow – just gorgeous! My bedroom isn’t big enough to set up a tree but thanks so much for the tips and I may try these for our livingroom tree!
Gail…I’m so glad that you found these tips helpful! ❤️
Thank you Pamela…more coming soon as I decorate some other rooms!
I was so excited to see the first part of your Christmas tour, and it did not disappoint. Just gorgeous. I have a flocked tree too, but it needs to be touched up. Can you recommend a good flocking? Thanks so much, Janet.
I loved the tour and appreciate all the hard work that goes into this blog. I just had a drum chandelier installed, only because the crystal chandeliers were out of my price range, but must say I’m so thrilled with results…..jus stunning. I have a lot of vintage around, more than you so cutting the “sweetness” a little has been wonderful and I’m so happy with the results. We each must do what makes us happy, especially now. I choose to be happy. I follow you, Miss Mustard Seed and about 10 other wonderful blogs. It really gives me such pleasure during the day. Thank you so much.
I sometimes think that most folks have no idea of the amount of work Eileen, so I appreciate your kind comment so very much! Yes, we do need much happiness these days and I’m glad to be a tiny part of it in your life ❤️
Janet:
Beautiful as always!!
Thank you so much Dorca!
Absolutely gorgeous! Would you be willing to share your source for the sconces on each side of the mirror over the fireplace? Thank you!
Love the religious items, so meaningful year round but especially significant in this season when so much decor excludes the purpose of this glorious season. Thank you!
Oh this is gorgeous Janet! These are my favorite colors, and this room is really speaking to me! The puppies obviously love it too! 🙂 The fairy lights on the fire logs have inspired me as well – I think I’ll be ordering some of those and crossing my fingers they get here in time! Thanks as always, and hope you’re having a wonderful holiday weekend!
Really lovely Janet!
Looking forward to further Christmas posts.
Everything is beautiful and I love your dogs but I think someone stole your presents.
Just having those dogs around has been one of the best presents of my life 🥰
Beautiful, as always Janet ! I especially love the little French table!
Thanks Claire! Small tables like that one get moved around lots here!
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you Sally!
Everything is so beautiful. As always, I love the cavaliers. They are beautiful. I’m sorry to hear about their health. ❤️ Remember I lost three over about a years time and went 6 months without any. Life was too quiet. I rescued a 5year old Blenheim from the Florida Cavalier Rescue and rescued another black & tan 8 month old last week. Im “busy” again. They bring so much joy.
Thank you Emily! Well Bartley passed away almost 2 years ago, as this post is on repeat. We still have Darby who is actually doing well at almost 11, despite her low grade MVD. I’d love to get a Cavalier rescue from that group and had my application in, but the couple of times we tried did not get chosen. I’m excited for you!!
So Lovely! That is the chair I’ve been searching for! Where did you get it!
Hi Caroline, I worked with Soft Surroundings back when they carried furniture and they sent it to me. Sadly they haven’t had furniture in several years now.
