How To Completely Change Out Your Bedroom Decorating – Fast

In this post I’m giving some tips for bedroom decorating that’s fast and will give your bedroom a seasonal lift! Most people will spend an average of 8-10 hours in their bedroom every single night. Since you do spend oodles of time in your bedroom, it should be a relaxing sanctuary. You don’t need to go out and buy all new furniture and repaint the walls to change up your bedroom. Here are a few quick things you can do to change your bedroom decorating quickly.

Where to place your bed

Move your bed
Moving your bed can completely transform the way your bedroom looks. If you are working with a small bedroom, you may be forced to place it against a wall. If that’s the case then try moving it against a different wall to change things up. Get creative with the placement such as positioning it at an angle to make it a little more fun.

Change the curtains
One of the first things you will notice in the bedroom is the comforter and the drapes. While changing the curtains might not sound like a significant change, they can add a pop of color to a dull room. Flowing drapes can add a more airy appearance to your room. If you’re on a tight budget, consider repurposing the ones you have, as I showed in this post. This was the bedroom at the hotel we stayed in on our recent San Francisco trip. I love the layering of sheers and grey silk drapes in this classic room. A cornice hides the mechanism at top.

Change your bedding
If you are short on time, changing the color of the room is a little out of reach. However, changing your bedding is a fast bedroom decorating change that can have a big effect. Investing in a new set of sheets, a duvet, throw pillows, and even a new quilt can bring personality to the room when you’re short on time. You can also use textures and prints to give your room some dimension. The duvet set below is from Crane and Canopy and was used only in this shoot. You can find that set at their website here and since I’m downsizing I’m selling this unused set. If interested in the details just email me an email at [email protected]

Add some new artwork
You may not have time to paint the walls, but adding some new artwork can personalize your space. You can find framed prints to hang on the walls, or wall art to bring the room together with your new decor choices. For more tips on choosing the right artwork for your home, check out this article.

Add a decorative rug
Adding a decorative rug to your master bedroom can warm the room and change the look and feel of your bedroom decorating. Area rugs are easy to relocate and can be a great way to change up the room when you don’t want to change out your bedding.

Find a pretty bedside lamp
Adding a pretty bedside lamp to your nightstand can be a great way to dress up your side tables without purchasing new furniture. You can find gorgeous lamps at the thrift store without breaking the bank! A bedside lamp can wake up a boring bedroom in just seconds. If you don’t want to shop at the thrift store, you can also find great lamps at the discount stores that we all love as well as estate and garage sales.

  1. I love all your quick ideas for creating a new look in the bedroom, Janet! I still love your white ruffled comforter/duvet cover… sigh! If you sell that one, let me know. <3 Are you moving?? I saw that you said you were downsizing, but perhaps this just means you're selling some things. Pinned several photos to my Ethereal Bedrooms board. <3

    Have a great week,
    Barb 🙂

    1. Thanks Barb for stopping by, as always! Not moving just yet, but we hope to downsize and leave the area at some point. Hugs!

Thanks for not having pop up cookies. Its hard to reply with them…I’m always moving things, and so much of my likes are similar so it makes it easier to make changes from one room to another…
But it can get a little crazy. Im 72 this month and it keeps my mind on the go….just painted my living room myself, and am happy that you keep sending new ideas. THANKS

    1. Thanks for stopping by Ellen and I’m impressed that you painted your living room by yourself. Not an easy job! Hugs, Janet

I recently decided I wanted to make some changes in my bedroom so your tips are perfect for me! I can’t move my bed–which I’m OK with–so I moved straight to tip 2. I ordered new drapes about 10 minutes ago. In my case I’m going from very elegant embroidered fabric to a simple linen. My drapes are beautiful but I’ve had them for years and the burgundy background limits what I can do in the room. I have a 6 foot window high above my bed and a slider so there are two large areas of burgundy with gold and silver embroidery. Next step is to find the perfect quilt or coverlet! I have no idea what color I want so I”m keeping an eye open for the “perfect” one!

    1. Glad to hear that you’re taking your time with the decorating, which I always recommend! I love my linen drapes and they are so classic. Have a wonderful evening…

  5. Hello I love the bed in the first picture such a pretty room.. Padded headboard and footboard cream color fabric. With the wood trim. Would you mind telling me where you purchased the bed?

    Cathy

    1. Thanks Cathy! The bed is called The Marquesa and it is manufactured by Bernhardt. Not sure if it’s still available for purchase, so you’d have to Google that.
