Early Spring Outdoor Entertaining

 french chairs lanterns outdoor entertaining
We have been reveling in the glorious weather that is early spring here in southern Florida and since we fully know that within the next couple of weeks the windows will all be closed up again and the a/c on…right now spending time outdoors is a daily goal!

French ironstone plates
Enough so that my darling Mr. doesn’t seem to mind dragging chairs out from the house when we have a few friends over on occasion to eat al fresco. We do have patio chairs and they are from Restoration Hardware and comfy…but why not mix things up and bring the indoors out!
Antique ironstone plates
My favorite old French ironstone plates sitting on top of the everyday white dinnerware are mixed with antique silver and some favorite vintage lace napkins.

The linen covered chairs have a French feel and the tone of that RH outdoor table just seem to make for a nice marriage of refined and rustic…

al fresco eating with flowers

We set up for a dinner outside under the palm trees just around what we call “the golden hour”, so of course the photographer in me had to grab my camera and take a few shots…

This area of our garden is partially shaded and I love how the light softly shines through the trees producing that beautiful bokeh. Right behind our property is a waterway, and sometimes we eat down there as well

I grabbed my garden clippers when I set up the table and snipped some ferns and other plants that grow as ground cover. Some white roses in a French zinc pitcher and a couple of glasses that I “borrowed” from a hotel where we stayed a couple of years ago in Avignon. I don’t think that they would mind:~}}

The lanterns are filled with candles and the twinkle lights in the trees will come on automatically at dusk since they are solar powered…

french country style dining

This is how I love to live and truth be told if I had my way (and a lot more in the wallet) I would be living in the country and not in the shadows of the big city of Miami. Somewhere that the seasonal changes could be felt more and outdoor living was possible for more than just a month. But this is home and we take advantage of the days that we can be outside, and the evenings.

  1. oh how beautiful that table setting is outdoors! I love every bit of it Janet! Can't wait to see your office reveal, and the settee looks fabulous already!

  2. Oh how I miss the year round outdoor living in Florida…yes, the season change is great, but there is nothing like throwing your windows open to the wonderful breeze. When our temps get nice enough to open windows, we sometimes cannot, as you would get a sea of that yellow dust, pollen!…Beautiful table Janet…love those gorgeous French ironstone plates and the wonderful textures on the table of the zinc and freshly cut ferns…Happy Early Spring!

  3. Oh, Janet seeing green makes me happy. I know you don't go through the bare gray season like we do and I hate it and can't wait to see green again. I would love to join you out there in the cool air of spring. So beautiful!

    Janet,

Your yard and table look so inviting. How lush and green your backyard is – it looks like you have tons of acreage behind you! We live in So Cal so like you, we get to eat outdoors more (which I love) but then the heat comes and in summer when most of the country is finally suppering outside, we are inside with the AC on (which I don't love!)

And can i just say how much I LOVE those blue and white plates! They are gorgeous!!
