How To Install A Shower Head

Back in December I had the opportunity to be one of the first bloggers to tour the HGTV Dream Home 2016 with Delta Faucet…
HGTV Dream Home 2016 kitchen

The home was amazing and filled with so many details that I loved and I mean…who wouldn’t!? If you haven’t seen it, you’ll find lots of inspiration in my photos HERE
Delta Faucet has been great to work with and when they offered me a new kitchen faucet I had to politely decline, as we had JUST replaced the one in our kitchen at home (Murphy’s law).

So my thoughts turned to the master bathroom instead, which is shown in this shot and I talked about it more HERE. We designed and installed this bathroom over 20 years ago and the only updates have been to the countertops, hardware and flooring. There are DEFINITELY some fits and finishes that I would change now, but it’s not in the budget. Small updates are an excellent way to refresh a room and although we have changed the shower head several times over the years it was now becoming worn out once again…

This is what I received and I’ll explain step by step how to install one for you. Keep reading to the end of this post, as Delta Faucet is giving away the same one that I received to one of my readers! We are truly enjoying the 5 setting two in one H2Okinetic® Spray shower head from Delta. We both work out and work hard and at the end of the day it’s lovely to have a shower that gives a massage to our sore muscles.
If you are shopping around for shower heads you can learn more about this model HERE, and some of the features via Delta are as follows;
  • Diverter lever sets In2ition Two-in-One Shower to one of three options: Showerhead and Handshower, Showerhead only, and Handshower only.
  • MagnaTite technology securely docks the hand shower to the shower head.
  • H2Okinetic Technology sculpts the water into a unique wave pattern, giving the feeling of more water without using more water.
  • WaterSense certification promotes water conservation.
  • Pause feature reduces the water to a trickle, allowing you to conserve water while doing tasks such as lathering up or shaving your legs.
  • Spray settings include: H2OKinetic, Full Body, Full Spray with Massage, Massaging.
  • Includes 72 in. hose.
My husband installed the shower head in about 5 minutes and sat down with me to give you detailed instructions on how to install one in this DIY. It can be adapted to any shower head and it’s not a complicated job in the least:
showerhead replacement
Remove old shower head by using a pair of channel locks or a crescent wrench to disconnect the existing shower head from the shower arm. The shower arm is not removed, only the shower head will be taken off…
crescent wrench used in plumbing
Once the shower head has been removed, peel away any existing plumber’s tape if it remains on the arm…
using teflon plumber tape
Apply new plumber’s tape to the shower arm threads. That will seal the connection between the new shower arm and the shower head…
diy shower head installation
Attach the new shower head bracket by screwing the shower head bracket clockwise on to the shower arm. Use a crescent wrench to tighten. This will also serve as the holder for the hand held shower…
shower head replacement
Apply plumber’s tape to the threads of the hand held shower hose as well as the threads of the hand held shower…
shower head attachment
Attach the hand held shower head to the hand held shower hose by screwing the two pieces together. Then tighten with pliers and be careful not to over tighten…

Had a mini-bathroom remodel in the plans for this summer (i.e. taking a week off for a new coat of paint, updating light fixtures, new window treatments, etc.) but a family emergency has dashed my hopes of that happening! But that's okay, family comes first……by next summer, I'll have a different vision for that update! 🙂

  15. What a great giveaway. We bought our 1970 home a year ago in January. While it had some upgrades there is so much more to be improved along with two showers that have full shower glass doors intact. A new shower head would be a great improvement. Thanks for the chance.

  16. OOH la la Janet, I got to got to have it. One just like yours please. Merci

  17. I am just finishing my bedroom update and my bathroom is next! This would be awesome.

  19. Thanks for such a great opportunity to win this shower head. I really could use a replacement in my main bathroom!

  20. I am in desparate need of a new shower head. My home is 20 years old so both my baths have the same ole ugly skinny builder grade shower head. I would be elated to win this Delta shower head. I have been wanting to replace mine for some time now but cost has always been a factor as I am retired.

  21. I actually saw a showerhead like that in the home improvement store and it was very hard to walk away from it. I'm so excited that I might have a chance to win one!

  22. My mom has this shower head and it's amazing. It's like having a massager in the shower. I would love this for my shower for sure.

  23. Hi Janet,

Wow! I love that shower head!! I'm slowly working on my master bath with a very limited budget! Our master bath is 30 years old and it really needs an update!!! Especially the shower head. We have to stand to one side so we can get the best spray! Sad, I know!!! Thanks for sharing!!

  26. Hubby has a bad back and that spray head would be soo soothing.Warm Blessings! ~♥Amy

  27. Perfect shower head for a long days work. I'm an ER nurse so at the end of a long hard day, my showers are my time to relax and of course my glass of wine. This looks like the very thing the doctor would order….ha ha. It looks great and how easy to install. Awesome!

  28. Old house needs new "stuff". And there is nothing like a good hot shower to start or end the day. This would be a dream.

  29. Love that shower head and would love to win! Thanks so much!!

  30. It would be awesome to win this shower head. I have a 1970s bathroom with a very old showerhead. Thanks so much for the tutorial and giveaway.

  31. My home was built in 1985, we moved there in 1993 and I have only changed the shower head once. Can I say it is in desperate need of a high quality, powerful and very attractive shower head such as this.

  32. The shower head in my master bathroom just broke! It would be awesome to win this beautiful shower head!

  33. The shower head in my master bathroom just broke! I would love to win this beauty!

  34. Thank you so much for offering such a lovely and generous giveaway! I would like to win so I can update our current shower head. The pause feature is pure genius! I hate wasting water when I'm shaving, but I don't want to turn it off completely. The H2Okinetic Spray shower head sounds like it is exactly what I need.

  35. I love this flexible showerhead….much more versatile than a fixed one. I have an older bathroom and couldn't justify installing another fixed showerhead under the regular one (for those days you need a quick shower but don't want your hair to get wet) and this is the perfect compromise!

  36. My current shower head is a basic. I sure would enjoy the luxury of such a lovely shower head!

  37. Our bathroom has a lot of "character", as in we bought an old house that was neglected and abused by renters. This would make washing the dog and our kids hair easier…and banish the funky old showerhead sooner!

  38. This will fit in so nicely because my bathroom is the next room on my list to be painted. AND in fact I am going to take down a small wall and remove a closet to open the room up more. I am excited to get started on this project!

  40. I would love to win because my shower head is cheap and generic.
