Inside a Modern Mountain Home Tour by the River

Tucked into a wooded hillside and perched just above a flowing river, I’m sure y’all be in awe of this modern mountain home tour just like me.

It’s not only a refined example of elevated interior design, but the whole space has such a peaceful and grounding feel that is not usual to come across.
Originally designed by Studio B and later updated by Joe McGuire Design, every detail was thoughtfully considered to create a space that feels calm, personal, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

What I love most right away is how this home doesn’t try to compete with nature, but lets it lead and build around it, without ever breaking up harmony.

Large windows frame those beautiful mountain views, natural light pours in from every angle, and you can feel that connection to the outdoors in every space.

It all feels very intentional, but still soft and easy at the same time. There’s also such a lovely focus on materials throughout the home.

You’ll notice warm woods, soft textiles, and layered textures that make everything feel cozy without being heavy. Nothing feels overly styled—just simple, beautiful pieces that come together in a really natural way.

And then there are those little thoughtful moments that make the home feel even more special.

From the calming artwork inspired by water to the quiet, almost spa-like atmosphere in each room, everything works together to create a space that feels restful and lived-in.

Home Tour: Where Indoors Meets Nature

The living room in this modern mountain home tour is where everything really comes together, and it’s such a beautiful reflection of the home’s overall feel.

Right away, your eye is drawn to those floor-to-ceiling windows… and that view! I just love how it feels like the outdoors are part of the space.

The palette here stays very soft and grounded—creamy neutrals, warm wood tones, and just a hint of muted green brought in through the pillows and surrounding landscape. It’s simple, but the international mix of textures throughout the room levels it up.

The boucle chairs, the plush ottomans, that gorgeous wood coffee table… it all adds depth without making the space feel busy.

And even with the modern lines, nothing feels stark or cold. The seating feels so cozy, the layout is relaxed, and everything is arranged in a way that invites you to relax.

There’s also such a nice connection to the outdoor space just beyond those doors.

It almost feels like an extension of the living room, which makes the whole area feel even more open. You can just imagine having the doors open and letting that fresh mountain air come in!

Modern Mountain Grounded Kitchen & Dining Room

Just beyond the living area, we enter the kitchen and dining space. It opens up so beautifully! I love how everything flows together without feeling too defined or boxed in.
Nothing feels forced, and each space naturally connects to the next. While I’m not the biggest fan of open layouts, in this space it makes total sense and only adds to its beauty.

The kitchen keeps that same calm and grounded feeling we’ve been seeing throughout the home. The palette leans very earthy and serene.

Soft grays, warm woods, and subtle green tones coming in again through styling and the view outside.
And can we talk about that island for a second? It’s just such an understated statement!

The stone has that slightly moody tone that contrasts so nicely with the warmth of the wood cabinetry. Paired with those sleek bar stools, it all feels clean and understated, but still really inviting.

Then as you move into the dining area, it all continues so seamlessly.

The round table keeps things feeling intimate, which I think works so well in a larger open space like this. And the upholstered chairs bring in another layer of softness that balances out all the wood tones.

But y’all, let’s be honest here. What really makes up this space, it’s the amazing backdrop! Those expansive windows, the mountains, the trees… it almost feels like you’re dining outside.

Just a few simple pieces on the table, a sculptural light above, and that gorgeous view doing most of the work.

Modern Mountain Bedroom: Soft and Serene Bedrooms

Moving into the bedrooms, that same sense of calm really carries through, but in a slightly softer aesthetic, almost in a cocoon-style way.
The primary bedroom has such a calm presence to it. The palette stays very soft—warm woods, creamy layers, and those gentle hints of blue that show up again in the artwork above the bed.

I love how that piece draws you in without overpowering the room. It almost feels like a faded sky, adding just a bit of color while still keeping everything feeling light and relaxed.

The rest of the space follows that same rhythm.
The bedrooms are dressed with simple nightstands, soft textiles, warm finishes, keeping a perfect balance where the spaces feel modern and serene, but not overdone or bare. It’s just thoughtfully put together in a way that feels and looks effortless.
And then there’s the light, y’all!

Between the large windows and the sheer drapes, the whole room has this soft glow throughout the day, with the greenery just outside becoming part of the backdrop. It really ties the space back to its surroundings in such a pretty way.

We can see the same feeling forward in the bathrooms.

You see those warm wood tones again, paired with soft stone and a few carefully chosen details. It all feels consistent without needing to match exactly.

In the secondary bedrooms, there’s a little more variation, which I really love!
One leans slightly deeper in tone, bringing in a bit more contrast while still staying within that same natural palette. Another feels lighter, with soft blues and simple layers that echo the rest of the home.

And then there’s that more minimal bedroom with the slatted wood detail. Isn’t it just beautiful?

I love how the light hits softer here. It adds to the earthy atmosphere, and it gives the whole space a really cozy feel without adding much at all.

I’m really inspired by the effortless feel in this home. Nothing feels forced, and nothing feels like it’s just there for the sake of it.

Each room has its own mood, but they all connect back to the same idea. It’s all about keeping things simple, warm, and grounded in the materials.

Modern Mountain Home Tour: A More Intimate Living Space

Where the main living area opens up to those big views and high ceilings, the family room pulls everything in just a bit. It’s more tucked away, more intimate… the kind of room you naturally settle into.

The palette leans a little warmer here too. You still have those soft neutrals, but paired with deeper wood tones and statement pieces, like the rich-texture beautiful leather chair that makes the space feel grounded.

I love how the seating is arranged. It’s closer and more conversational. It invites you to actually sit down, stay awhile, maybe flip through a book or just unwind at the end of the day. And speaking of books… those built-ins are such a highlight!

They’re styled in a way that feels collected over time rather than overly arranged. A mix of books, ceramics, small objects, even a few personal touches—it all adds to that lived-in feeling that makes this room stand out from the rest.

The textures play a big role here too.

Between the woven rug, the soft upholstery, and that wall hanging above the sofa, everything feels layered in a way that’s cozy without being heavy.
It’s not trying to be the showpiece of the home… and that’s exactly why it works so well.
