How To Make Oil Lantern Candles For Summer

Are you a candleaholic like I am? Flowers and candles are two things that I do treat myself to regularly and today I’m sharing a DIY that gives a great look and it’s very inexpensive to the point of being almost free!

For these candles, you'll need a few Mason jars and flowers. I used faded blossoms from my plumeria tree that had fallen to the ground, but you can do these candles with any type of flower!

First, select your jars! I selected clear jars and you can use any jars that you have been saving…like jelly jars or peanut butter jars as long as they are glass.

STEP ONE

Then, take the buds and leaves and place them loosely into your Mason jars, filling close to the top.

STEP TWO

Now, fill your jars with water. Make sure to leave a couple of inches at the top. Pour a layer of about an inch with vegetable oil on top of that. As oil and water do not mix, the oil will float because it’s lighter. For an extra touch, I added some frozen cranberries and scented them by adding around 10 to 20 drops of lavender essential oil to the jar.

STEP THREE

For the final step, add some floating candle wicks, and... voila! You’ve got your your Oil Lantern Candles ready!

Aren’t they pretty? They are safe to have around, because in the event that someone knocks them over the water should extinguish the flame. You can vary them by the jars used, float some glass jar filler or other fruits, small vegetables and even add food coloring to the water.
