When I design a tablescape I always think about the fact that I like easy and casual entertaining. Yet when I do invite guests in I have never been a paper plate, pick up a platter at the grocery store type of girl. I love to plan it out and have everything look pretty and it makes guests feel special when thought goes into it.
So for Christmas at the beach house I took a little dry run on a stormy weekend recently, and using only.
fresh fruits and greenery that I picked up at the market I set up a garland of sorts that I’ll be copying (from myself:~} when we are back up at the beach again shortly and entertain.
I started by draping the fresh evergreens across the table. No wire is necessary and to make clean up easy I laid it out on top of a vintage European grainsack runner.
My next step was to place an ironstone cake stand on one end of the table and filled it with fruits in rich colors. By using pomegranates, red pears, apples and cherries it brought in some deep colors to the room that is void of traditional Christmas red.
Low slung tablescapes allow for easy conversation and don’t need to be removed in most cases when you and your guests sit down to eat.
In addition to fruits if you’ve followed me for any length of time you KNOW that I LOVE to mix flowers into my vignettes and my favorites are back at the market. Peonies!!
I could NOT resist these mini Red Velvet cheesecakes and since I know that we will be up here at the beach again soon I purchased some for my “not so dry run” table setting to serve and eat:~)
Cheesecake freezes beautifully and the individual Red Velvets are perfect for Christmas. Food is a wonderful way to add color to the table if (like me) red at holiday time isn’t your thing.
The golden light of candles called for the vintage gold flatware and vintage yard sale dessert plates rimmed in gold.
A little glow, some favorite vintage thrifted ironstone and grocery market goodies make for a casual and truly effortless tablescape for the holidays and for any any season.
I’m joining in with six extremely talented designer friends today for a blog hop dedicated to the art of tablescapes! I hope that you have a chance to visit the others for a real visual treat and inspiration galore.
A peek at what I have coming for you on Monday!
