Coastal Home Decor – Stylish On Cape Cod

coastal beach home Cape Cod old silver shed

This stunner belongs to someone that I’ve had the absolute pleasure of being friends with for several years through Instagram, Sandra Cavallo of Old Silver Shed. Originally from New York, Sandra lives on Cape Cod with her husband Phil and 22 year old twins Gianni and Nathalie. In 2004, the couple purchased this fixer-upper of a home that was an old abandoned Victorian on Cape Cod. As a trained graphic designer with a great eye, she set her course to dismantle the home and salvage whatever was possible. On Sandra’s blog Old Silver Shed and her Instagram, she shares her story of putting this diamond in the rough back together and what was learned in the process.

What first attracted me to Old Silver Shed was the setting. Isn’t it simply incredible?

Old Silver Shed is situated on a bluff overlooking Old Silver Beach and the Herring River salt marsh. Whether at sunrise or sunset the play of light is perfect over the beach and marsh land.

The garden is carefully curated and tended to by a professional landscaper who is familiar with working in this special environment. Those blue hydrangeas!

As the internet community of creatives is a small space, I remember hearing about Sandra’s home from my friend Matthew Mead when we co-taught photography classes at a blog conference (Haven) a few years ago. He had gone out to shoot her home for publication and helped Sandra set up her Instagram account. Now we are blessed to see her updates daily!

Since Sandra sent me all of these photos to share with you, I’m keeping the dialogue light and the emphasis heavy on on visual eye candy. Keep scrolling…exterior shots are first followed by the oh so stylish interiors spaces.

Sandra and Phil call this “built from scratch” since they took the old home down to the foundation. With a thoughtful process paying close attention to the history of the area they came up with sketches and a design plan. Going green was important to them, building in an authentic shaker style of The Cape and incorporating lots of salvage from the tear down.

Sandra’s tagline is “artfully mixing old and new” and she does this so well. Wouldn’t you just love to take a vintage shopping trip with her around New England? I know that I would!

You’ll find nuggets of the restoration process explained on Sandra’s blog HERE. I love the crushed shell entry area…true to the New England coastal vibe.

I think Everything is done so tastefully and liveable. I hate it when you see these houses sometimes and they look more like museums than homes. Real people don’t live that way!
I would have to change one thing though. Tha hand coming out of the sink in the bathroom. Kinda creepy!
