Transform your Thanksgiving kids table into a magical space with creative decorations, activities, and special touches that will keep little ones entertained throughout the holiday meal.

As a mom of four, I know the scene all too well: Thanksgiving dinner is moments away, the turkey’s perfectly golden, and suddenly there’s a squadron of energetic kiddos zooming through the dining room while the adults are trying to serve up those carefully prepared dishes. Y’all know exactly what I’m talking about, right?

Sons, daughters, grandkids, or nephews and nieces… all kids can get so excited and have all this amazing energy that’s so endearing. I love to encourage it but it can be a bit too much during a holiday gathering.

That’s exactly why I became a huge fan of having a Thanksgiving kids table. But not just any table with smaller chairs!
I’m talking about a thoughtfully planned space that makes our little ones feel part of this special holiday.

Giving the little ones their own festive corner of Thanksgiving complete with fun games and decorations just for them truly transforms this holiday into something magical for them and for the adults, too. It’s also such a fun way to show them what this holiday is all about!

A well-planned kids’ table goes beyond just keeping sticky fingers away from your best china (though let’s be honest, that’s definitely a plus!). Kids will have their own space but still be part of the holiday. They’ll be able to stay engaged throughout the meal, make memories with their cousins and friends, and actually sit and eat their dinner.

Plus, it gives us adults a chance to enjoy our own meals while they’re happily occupied playing and making fun memories.

How to Set Up a Thanksgiving Kids Table That Sparkles with Fun

This upcoming holiday let’s make our Thanksgiving kids table a highlight of your Thanksgiving celebration and not just an afterthought.  Now, let me share with y’all a few tips and get inspired with these Thanksgiving kids table ideas that the little ones will absolutely love!

Planning Your Thanksgiving Kids Table Layout

Let’s tackle the basics first, and set up the Thanksgiving kids table for your tiny guests.

Depending on how many little ones you’ll be hosting and their age ranges, you may need a kid-sized dinner set. If you already have one at home but don’t much the rest of your Thanksgiving decor, you can dress it up with a tablecloth in a similar style to the main table or go for simple placemats (put a pin on this, I’ll share more ideas below)

Now, if you’re hosting older kids too, a standard-height table with regular chairs would work better.

Now, location matters more than you might think. Keep the kids’ table close enough to the main table for easy check-ins, but far enough that the adults can actually talk. I love setting it up where there’s a line of sight from the grown-up table – maybe in an adjoining room or at the other end of the dining space. Just avoid placing it near any high-traffic areas to avoid any accidents.

Your kids’ table needs enough room for more than just plates and cups. Think about leaving at least a foot of space between place settings – these little ones need elbow room for eating and whatever crafts or activities you’ve planned.

And speaking of activities, themed Thanksgiving games are an absolute must for my kiddos! If you have enough room, you can set up a separate small table close by for craft supplies to keep the main eating area clearer. But, as my little ones grow older, I’ve realized this is no longer needed and a tray with all their supplies that doubles as their centerpiece does the trick.

Creating That Thanksgiving Magic

For kids’ dinnerware, unbreakable materials like bamboo fiber and non-toxic silicone are your best friends.
There are so many pretty Thanksgiving-themed options! You can also opt to use something more neutral or aligned with your overall decor and let the games, activities, and supplies add that fun pop of color to the Thanksgiving kids table.

For your tablecloth, think of layers. I love the idea of layering a kraft paper runner on top of a washable tablecloth so kids can doodle. There are also stunning printable options, both for runners and placemats with Thanksgiving-themed illustrations and games. A vinyl or oilcloth base under a paper runner or placemats gives you the best of both worlds – easy cleanup underneath with a festive look on top!

For your centerpiece, think pretty but interactive and stable. A low basket filled with mini velvet pumpkins, and felt leaves or a tray with mason jars holding crayons and other supplies.
Place cards become part of the fun when you make them double as activities. Think simple turkey shapes they can decorate, or leaf cutouts they can color while waiting for dinner. Just keep the materials washable – because somehow, markers always find their way onto faces.

For lighting, battery-operated flameless candles in mason jars add sparkle safely. Wrap a pillar candle in a pretty jute twine bow for extra charm, or nestle some tea-light candles among small pumpkins. The soft glow will make everything feel magical!

Keeping Little Hands Busy

Activities are the secret to a fun Thanksgiving meal. Start with placemats that do double duty – I’m talking about coloring sheets with turkeys, mazes, and word searches printed right on them.

Between bites, keep the entertainment rolling with simple table games. A Thanksgiving-themed bingo or “Roll A Turkey” gets everyone giggling and talking. Tuck some Thanksgiving-themed playing cards or puzzles nearby each place setting for those inevitable lulls.

Speaking of gratitude (it is Thanksgiving, after all), set up a simple “Thankful Chain” station nearby. Kids can write what they’re grateful for on paper strips, and then link them together into a colorful chain. It keeps them busy and creates a sweet keepsake.

If you want to go all out, this is how to do it. Decorated with a polka-dot tablecloth, this playful Thanksgiving kids table is all about fun and special details.
