Interior Designer Extraordinaire Marie Flanigan

Recognized worldwide for infusing sophistication and functionality in the homes of her clientele, today we are taking a closer look at the work of Houston-based designer Marie Flanigan.

Favorite Designer Series: Interior Designer Marie Flanigan

For our first blog post in our new series about our favorite interior designers, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate designer to start this series than Marie Flanigan.

Marie has a truly stunning portfolio that showcases her exceptional talent in the balancing act that is interior design.

We’ll be looking at some of her exquisite creations where she masterfully blends timeless style with contemporary appeal.

With her architectural education and art history background, Marie Flanigan has a strong understanding of design.

One can easily see this by looking at her beautifully curated Instagram feed, where she shares her latest projects, collaborations, and home decor tips.

So, if this home decor style is up your alley, you’re in for a treat! Below, I’m sharing some of my personal faves.

Marie designs in a way that’s as strategic as it is beautiful, creating spaces that both reflect her client’s aesthetic and are highly functional for the way they live.

Her interiors are fresh and original, full of interesting combinations of elements like patterns and textures perfectly curated without being too much – timeless, elegant, contemporary, and romantic.

In Her Own Words:

I hope that my design work enhances the lives of the people who live and work in the spaces we’ve created. It’s my absolute pleasure to add beauty to their day-to-day lives.

The Ultimate Home Renovation Inspiration: Royal Point

Flanigan and her team worked their magic and transformed a dark, dated Texas house into an airy and bright home that’s luxe and inviting while honoring the original architecture’s essence.

Whimsical Sitting Room Makeover by Marie Flanigan

The sitting room is a prime example of her incredible makeovers.

This space features a whimsical hand-painted wallcovering by Gracie Studio that engulfs the room and adds to its intimate and otherworldly feel.

Modern Formal Dining Room

Similarly, the dining room transformation is one for the books.

In addition to replacing dark reddish wood built-ins (typical of the 1990s decor trends) with earthy wood tones, heavy ornamental elements were removed for a brighter and fresher look.

The design choices completely modernized the space!

Master Bedroom Renovation

If you’re wondering ‘how can I make my master bedroom luxurious? Take a few tips from Marie’s book!

For example, in this bedroom, she layered a delicious assortment of rich textures like velvet, linen, chunky yarns, and metallic accents.

This created a harmonious contrast against the calming color palette and oddly shaped ceiling room.

Marie Flanigan Best Kitchen Remodel Ideas: Royal Point Kitchen

With its brass connections and glass shelves, the custom-made hanging shelf system optimizes space while displaying beautiful crockery.

Likewise, the bathroom in this same home got an amazing renovation. The makeover elevated the bathroom to a lavish room where vintage glamor meets modern luxury.

Whitney Port’s Dreamy Bathroom

Bathroom remodels aren’t just shiny upgrades. They can be life-changing (and are one of the best investments you can make in your home!)

Just look at Flanigan’s bathroom redesign for one of her famous clients, Whitney Port.

As we can see, this bathroom remodel combines some stunning elements: A luxurious calacatta marble, brass hardware, and black shiplap. Full-length mirrors and reflective accents help the room feel brighter and bigger.
(I love the little touch of artwork!)

You can read more about my own bathroom renovation HERE.

But this is not the first time Flanigan’s team has worked with Port. As a matter of fact, Port completely remodeled her home with Flanigan’s services a few years back.

You can see the entire home renovation in this exclusive Architectural Digest article.

This dining area is by far one of my favorites. It’s modern, fresh but has a timeless sensibility that invites you right in.

The Best Stylish Masculine Decor Inspo

Another favorite of mine is the Little John project where Flanigan showcased once again how to make a space functional yet strikingly beautiful.

While updating the space with contemporary accents and fixtures, Little John has a more masculine feel.

The design incorporated traditional touches throughout using darker wood, artworks, and Baroque-inspired details.

I truly love  how her designs reflect the individuality and history of each client’s home without sacrificing functionality.

These are just a few of my favorite photographs from her portfolio that inspire me. But, you can find all of her jaw-dropping work on her Instagram, website, and blog.

Did you love these home renovations as much as I did? Let me know in the comments down below!
