Mid Century Modern Home Tour -The Collected Look
Mid century modern home in a former colorful but outdated southern belle beauty? Homeowner and blogger Maggie Overby was up for the challenge. Lots of before and after shots, so let’s get right into it!
Room Transformations From Tired & Worn To Mid Century Modern In This Home
“I’m a New Orleans native, which is probably where I get my flare for color, currently living in South Carolina. I have a degree in architecture but have become an interior design junkie and a DIY-er extraordinaire.”
Maggie totally updated her dining room with the use of rich color and vintage finds…on a budget.
Dark and dramatic and note the tones of teal and pink tie together throughout the rest of this mid century modern home.
“I am also a former military wife and a mom of two. Being married to the military has meant eleven moves in the last twenty years. That’s a lot of houses to put my stamp on!”
The before living room was nice, but just didn’t call to the family’s colorful style.
“In that time I have become an expert at setting up a house quickly. I learned to make a house a home without a high-end budget.”

About Maggie’s Home Journey
“When we moved to Germany in 2013 I decided it was time to start a blog to share my adventures with the world.Of course, we’ve moved again since then and are now residing in our second home in South Carolina. I went back to work full time in 2016 designing and project managing kitchen and bath remodels. But I’m still all about making my house MY home! This time in the house we plan to stay in for a while.”
“When we bought our current home we were not really looking for a house just checking out the market. My husband was still active duty and hadn’t even decided if he was ready to retire yet.We looked at the house just to see what was available in out price range. But it’s kind of like looking at puppies. Don’t do it unless you are ready to take one home! It was the only house we looked at. It needed some cosmetic updates but the bones were perfect.
Having lived in quite a few house we had a dream home wish list. This one ticked ALL the boxes! With 8 months left on our rental lease we made an offer and let fate decide. Well I guess you know what fate had to say, because here we are 3 years later. My husband has since retired from the Army and is now working with the military as a civilian. I guess the the house made the decisions for us!”
Our favorite room has to be the sunroom. We have a lake out back with a beautiful view and lots of wildlife.
“If it’s too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter we just have our morning coffee in the comfort of the sunroom. We are still able to enjoy the outdoors.”
“I also enjoy the bonus room over the garage since we have converted it into a guest suite.” We live far from our families in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast. It’s nice to have a comfortable place for people to stay when they come to visit.
Before the bonus room was a guest room it served as a teen bedroom.
And the original look of the bonus room below.
We love the collection of Persian rugs used throughout this mid century modern home styled home! It ties the rooms together, along with the accents that are in the teal/blue and pink/red range.
You’ll often see Palladian windows in homes in the south. One thing about them is that are difficult to cover!
The master bathroom has had gentle updates with paint and a few other touches.
The power of paint transformed Maggie’s sons’ room from tired to young and hip!
The man cave is still decorated with a mid century modern vibe, yet filled with his memorabilia in this home!

And a “cave” for Maggie to sew in, decorated with collectibles that make her happy!
And last (but not least) some stylish bathroom remodels!

She is extremely creative…just shows what one can do using thrifted finds!
By any chance do you have any information regarding the blue paint in the master bathroom?
