New Lighting In The Beach House Breakfast Room
This new lighting in the breakfast room at the beach house has really modernized the room! With shapes in mind, learn why we chose this lighting fixture.
My husband and I have had more discussions then I can even begin to recall over the years about circles. Circles just make us run around in circles sometimes…pun is intended. You see…he is the kind of guy who thinks in straight lines, coming from an engineering background and part of his daily existence. On the other hand, that’s not me and I love things rounded off.
Lighting Control Systems
We also wanted to modernize this room with smart lighting control!
Maybe that’s why we do well together….but some decisions are tough to come by whether it’s in home design or even cars. I
knew that our previous light fixture in the beach house breakfast room wasn’t cutting it and as we set out to renovate the kitchen I’d been searching for some new lighting. I’ve talked about favorite lighting before and we even used to make our own lighting fixtures!
Like many of you I go through decorating phases and the shot above was how the room looked when we first designed this home, going on 15 years ago now. The shot is actually from a magazine in Europe that I had worked freelance for and I can’t really find anything else to show you. Not that there was anything wrong with this look, but I wanted something else.
More recently we had the table and chairs above in the breakfast nook (shown in another room here) and while the chairs may remain (for now) my husband took this table to use for a work station in the beach house garage.
Geometric Shapes In Lighting
Circles, circles…rounded lines and an updated feel. I will reveal the completed kitchen makeover soon, but I was also pursuing and perusing gold and silver options to bring the eye over from the kitchen decor accents. We are still debating and the circle vs straight lines on handles and pulls and will see who wins out;-)
We WERE in agreement about this Sausalito 25″ Wide Silver Gold Pendant Light that I selected from my friends at Lamps Plus and love the fact that it can be used with mixed metal accents in whatever we choose! It picks up either the silver or the gold tones depending on the reflections at different times of the day. Here I think that it picks up the silver. Do you see that too?
In this shot a little more of the gold is picked up by the new artwork…and I’ll be talking art in BEACH HOUSE DESIGN in an upcoming post. I love how the pendant has a sturdy wrought iron frame and isn’t too farmhouse but more on the contemporary side. The Sausalito also comes in smaller pendant styles that would be perfect over a kitchen island. Super easy to install…it took us about 15 minutes.
The room looks much cleaner now and I’m still debating a few changes down the line, but as homes and rooms are always in flux…we shall see. Vintage and new will always be in style as a mix, that’s one thing that I don’t think will ever change!
