Welcome back, friends! Today I’m taking y’all inside Project Roanoke, a gorgeous Toronto home with a stunning modern transitional design style created by Erin Interiors, and I just know y’all are going to love this one as much as I do.

Modern transitional design is one of my all-time favorite styles, but I’ll be the first to admit it’s not always easy to get right. Too much of a traditional lean and the space can start to feel a little dated.

Push too far in the contemporary direction and you lose all that warmth and character that makes this style so special. Finding that sweet spot is the whole game, and Project Roanoke absolutely found it.

The color story here is something I keep coming back to. Soft taupes, creamy whites, warm woods, little touches of black here and there for contrast. It’s restrained in the best possible way, and it’s that restraint that lets everything else shine.

Okay, let’s get into it!

Living Room That Feels Instantly Welcoming

The living room is the heart of Project Roanoke, and y’all, what a beautiful place to start!

The whole thing has that relaxed, collected feel where every piece looks like it belongs there but nothing feels too formal. That is such a hard balance to strike and this room just nails it.

Those custom built-ins flanking the fireplace were the first thing I noticed. The styling is so well edited . We have woven baskets, some pretty pottery, books, a few collected objects but nothing is crammed in.

Everything has a little room to breathe.

There’s also a textured wallpaper behind the shelves that is one of those details you almost miss, but once you see it you realize how much warmth it’s adding to the whole wall.

With a crisp white surround and dark herringbone tile, the fireplace shines with such a simple color pairing.

And the layers! This might be my favorite thing about the whole room. The floral pillows, the striped accents, the boucle ottomans, that gorgeous patterned rug — all of it together and none of it fighting for attention.

That’s the magic of sticking to a tight color palette. When the colors stay in their lane, the textures and patterns get to do all the talking.

Actually, that’s a tip worth tucking away. If a neutral room is feeling a little flat, don’t automatically go reaching for more color. Try adding more variety in fabric and pattern first. It makes such a difference!

Kitchen & Dining Room

The kitchen opens right up into the dining and living areas, but what I loved is that each space still feels like its own thing even though there are no walls separating them.

The mix of materials and lighting and furniture does all the work of making each zone feel distinct, and it’s done so seamlessly here.

The kitchen itself is everything. Simple cabinetry, warm wood tones, those gorgeous brass accents, a little organic styling here and there. It has all the clean lines you’d expect from a modern kitchen but it feels warm and lived-in rather than like a showroom.

The island is a natural stopping point. Waterfall countertop, leather counter stools, beautiful finishes all around. So pretty and so functional at the same time.

Can we also take a moment for the coffee nook though? Because it may be my favorite detail in this entire home!

That arched niche is just so charming, and the way they styled it makes it feel like a real feature rather than just a corner of the kitchen.

Warm wood cabinetry, a tiled backdrop, a little brass picture light, everyday essentials and pretty serving pieces. It has so much personality. I would spend every single morning right there.

Modern Transitional Designed Inspired Bedroom

The primary bedroom takes the whole warm and layered look and dials it back into something really soft and restful.

That upholstered bed is so beautiful. The curved silhouette adds this lovely softness to the room, especially against the clean wall molding behind it. And the bedding! Linen textures, soft tonal layers, a plush throw. The whole thing just looks like the most comfortable place in the world.

The trio of framed pieces above the bed fills that wall so nicely without making it feel crowded, and the brass reading sconce is one of those details that’s both pretty and practical. Love when a room makes room for both.

This bedroom is such a good reminder that neutral doesn’t have to be boring. When the layering is done right, simple materials and soft colors can be just as interesting as anything bold.

Modern Transitional Design Ideas For The Bathrooms

The primary bathroom brings in that same warmth with a wood vanity that immediately makes the space feel different from your typical bathroom.

Soft and rich rather than bright and cool, which I think is such a lovely direction to take a bathroom.

Vertical tile runs up the vanity wall and adds just a little texture, and the pair of arched mirrors softens the whole thing beautifully. Brass fixtures throughout. It feels polished without feeling stiff or untouchable.

The secondary bathroom goes in a completely different direction with a deep navy vanity, and I love that they did that.

It’s a bold moment compared to the rest of the home but it still feels like it belongs, mostly because the brass hardware and arched mirrors connect it right back to everything else we’ve seen.

One space doing something a little different without losing the thread of the whole house.

The Prettiest Mudroom

This mudroom is another of my favorite things about this home. It’s just SO pretty while also being totally functional.

The soft green cabinetry is a sweet surprise after all the taupes and creams, and it works so well with the warm wood tones.

Woven baskets, a natural fiber runner, a little gallery wall. And that built-in bench under the window is just the sweetest detail.

The whole space feels welcoming instead of just practical, and that’s not easy to do in a room that’s basically designed for dropping your stuff.

Little Nooks with Modern Transitional Design Home Tour

Just when I thought I’d seen all my favorites, this sitting room appeared and completely stole my heart.

It’s tucked behind a beautiful arched opening and has this moodier, more intimate feel compared to the open living spaces.

The darker built-ins create such a cozy backdrop, and the shelves are styled with books, pottery, baskets, all kinds of collected pieces.
