Shoreview: An Inspiring Modern Transitional Home Tour

Have you ever scrolled past a home tour and immediately had to go back? That’s exactly what happened when I first saw this modern transitional home tour from Cruz Interiors Inc. out of Tampa, and I knew I had to share it with y’all!

Now, modern transitional design can be quite tricky. A good designed space in this style will look effortless — but it’s not an easy style to pull off. Too modern and it starts to feel cold. Too traditional and it loses that fresh, current quality that makes transitional so appealing in the first place.

The most stunning spaces are all about finding that balance between modernity and timelessness without it ever feeling forced or artificial.

And that’s exactly what I love about this home — it nails it. Cruz Interiors paired blonde wood tones with really rich, dark finishes throughout. Glossy against matte, curved furniture next to sharp architectural lines.

That contrast is what keeps a transitional home feeling elevated and layered rather than flat or generic, and you’ll see it play out beautifully in every single room.

Whether you’re deep into a renovation, just starting to think about refreshing a space, or simply here for the eye candy (no judgment, same!) — there’s so much to take away from this one. I’m so excited to walk y’all through it!

The Entryway & Staircase: Moody, Glamorous, and Completely Stunning

With a dark, moody character, this entryway welcomes you under a coffered ceiling with a stunning chandelier that’s really more sculpture than light fixture.

I love the mix of deep hues with brass! It gives the whole space this shimmery, layered quality that feels so luxurious.

And then through the glass-paneled doors, you catch your first glimpse of the staircase — light oak treads, black iron railings, bright white walls. Dark and intimate in here, open and airy out there. What a way to set the tone for everything that follows.

With floating oak treads against the vertical black balusters, there’s a graphic rhythm as you look up toward that two-story window wall. And the circular chandelier above, with all those individual glass bulbs arranged in rings, anchors the vertical space perfectly without feeling heavy.

Notice how the contrast between the dark entry and the bright staircase makes both spaces feel stronger. Each one needs the other to land the way it does.

I love this idea! It’s such a good reminder that your staircase can turn into one of the most impactful design accents in a home.

The Study: Dark, Dramatic, and So Well Done

Continuing with the moody and luxurious aesthetic, the study is all blue, black and shimmery copper.

The walls, ceiling, coffered molding, and cabinetry are all the same deep near-black (using the drenching technique we’ve covered before) and the effect is incredible.

Now, the fluted walnut desk is one of my favorite pieces in the whole house! The curved and drum-like silhouette with the vertical ribbing is unmistakably modern, but the warmth of the wood keeps it from feeling cold.

Beside it, a forest green velvet chair adds just the right color note. Deep enough to hold its own against all that dark paint, but not so saturated that it fights with anything.

The built-in wall is floor-to-ceiling cabinetry with brass hardware, open shelves styled with books, ceramics, and objects with real personality.

If you’re nervous about going this dark, start with one small room. Maybe a laundry room or a reading nook! Paint everything the same color, and don’t forget the ceiling. This color painting idea requires a full commitment for that dramatic result.

The Powder Room: The Most Fun Room in the House

Powder rooms are where you can really take risks, and this one did not hold back. n the best possible way!

Black zellige tile with that beautiful handmade irregularity covers one wall, while a deeply textured Venetian plaster finish in the same near-black family wraps the other.

Two very different textures, but within the same tonal family which makes the contrast between work beautifully in this tiny space.

Then floating right in the middle of all that darkness: a slab sink in quartzite, its white and grey and gold veining absolutely glowing against the moody backdrop.

The reason this works so beautifully is that every finish shares the same mood but has a completely different texture. Zellige is matte and grid-like.

Venetian plaster is smoky and fluid. Quartzite is luminous and veined. Vary your textures in a dark space and the room takes care of itself.

The Kitchen: Where All That Warmth Lives

After all those moody, dramatic spaces, walking into this kitchen feels like stepping into a sunny afternoon.

The lower cabinets are a beautiful light-washed oak, warm and natural, with a white-grey painted upper run that keeps the space feeling airy.

Open wood shelves flank the range wall, styled with white ceramics, greenery, and well-loved cookbooks.

The countertops are a clean white quartzite, the hardware is brass throughout, and the floors are that same light oak we saw in the entryway.

And then there’s the range! A professional dual-fuel with brass knobs and hardware, sitting under the most perfectly proportioned arched plaster range hood.

The wall behind it is creamy zellige tile, the same handmade tile family as the powder room, but here in an ivory and warm white palette that reads completely differently in all this natural light.

The charming vintage-style runner rug on the kitchen floor ties everything perfectly together!

The Living Room: All About the Light

Is there anything better than a great room with double-height ceilings and walls of windows? I think not! This living room is exactly that, and Cruz Interiors let the architecture do most of the talking.

Warm white walls, light oak floors, a clean limestone fireplace surrounded with a herringbone tile firebox are some of the prettiest features in this living room.

Paired with oversized furniture, like the plush white sofas, square natural wood coffee table, and a pair of deep olive green ottomans, the space has that perfect mix of relaxed but elevated we love so much here at Shabby.

One of my favorite design choices here is the scale play happening overhead!

Three geometric black iron chandeliers, clustered and hung at varying heights from that soaring ceiling, anchor the vertical space in the most dramatic way.

They’re large and architectural, and they give the room its backbone without weighing anything down. Black iron against all that white — it’s such a classic transitional combination and it never gets old.

The Primary Bedroom: The Softest Place in the House

After all the drama throughout the rest of this home, the bedroom is a gentle break of soft layers and hues.

The palette is the quietest in the house, with warm whites, creamy linens, natural oak and  soft taupe creating the color story.

The boucle upholstered bed is just gorgeous! The looped nubby texture looks so gorgeous paired up with striped linen pillows and a shearling throw pillow. (And yes, there is a very regal cat curled up on the bed, and I cannot with this much cuteness!)

A small black matte chandelier with candle-style bulbs provides just enough graphic contrast overhead to keep the room from feeling too soft.

Adding some gentle contrast, we can see subtle panel molding in the same warm white as the wall frames the bed. Small accents like the brass wall sconce, jute rug and texture bedding add to this effect.

The biggest take from this stunning room? Every fabric and material in this room leads with texture rather than color — boucle, linen, shearling, jute. When you’re working in an all-neutral palette, texture is how you keep things interesting. Rough and smooth, matte and soft, coarse and plush.

The Primary Bathroom: Light, Warm, and So Dreamy

In the primary bathroom, a double vanity runs the full length of the room, pairing light oak cabinetry with matte black hardware and the most beautiful marble countertop with soft grey and warm gold veining. Complementing that earthy but airy palette: brass wall-mount faucets, tall brass and glass sconces flanking black-framed rectangular mirrors, all grounded by marble herringbone floors.

And then there’s the tub. A freestanding soaking tub centered right in front of a big black-framed picture window, with palm trees and green grass just outside — that view!

A woven rattan pendant hangs above it, which is such an unexpected and perfect choice. It adds that organic, textural note the space needed without competing with anything.

It’s warm and bright and so well put together — and honestly, that mix of materials and details is exactly what makes modern transitional design so timeless.

Isn’t it funny how a home can teach you something just by walking through it? This one reminded me of contrast. Real and intentional contrast.

The blonde wood against the dark paint, the glossy quartzite against the matte zellige, the curved desk against the sharp architectural moldings.

Every room in this house has that tension running through it, and it’s what makes the whole thing feel so alive.

I’d love to know — which room was your favorite? Drop it in the comments below!
