Our New Resilient Vinyl Flooring Refresh

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by LifeProof Flooring. As always, all opinions and words are honest and my own.

I’ve been talking about the fact that we would be refreshing with rigid vinyl flooring for awhile on social media. Today I am THRILLED to show it off and the pups and I want to tell you about these beautiful floors!

There are rooms in our home that I don’t normally show on my blog, or don’t show often. They haven’t been touched in years! We have lived in our home for 27 years now and it has served us well. We raised our family here and now the rooms have taken on new roles. What used to be the master bedroom is my husband’s home office/den/guest room. We added a new wing shortly after moving in, so we were able to repurpose that space. The additional rooms that are functional yet shabby are what used to be the kids’ bedrooms. One is now my home office and the other is still a bedroom.

The biggest issue and eyesore in all three of these rooms has been the flooring. Back when Hurricane Andrew struck shortly after we moved in, the house was flooded. Needless to say, everything was ruined including the flooring. The floors in these rooms had just been replaced before the hurricane with wood parquet tiles that my husband laid himself. While some of the flooring bowed and popped up, eventually it dried and laid flat. (His office below, getting ready for the new flooring.)

We decided at the time not to replace it because frankly it wasn’t in our budget. Budgets are a reality for most of us when we are just starting out adulting!
We figured it looked okay, and we could wait to change it out after we recovered from other expenses. Months turned into years and we lived with the damaged flooring, covering much of it with area rugs. My home office was the scene of a DIY project where we painted the floors with porch paint. It held up nicely except for the area where my office chair with casters rolled.

It’s been truly an embarrassment to show my husband’s office/den floor when friends came over. We started planning an office renovation for him and had these plans in place to go forward with. This room has really been an eyesore and I just avoided going in there anymore.

When I had the chance to work with LifeProof Flooring from The Home Depot for these rooms I was elated!

To coordinate seamlessly with the tile floors in the main areas of the home, I chose a beige and grey tone. I headed over to my local Home Depot and looked at the various sample boards there. Here is a link to what I chose:  LifeProof Cottonwood Valley Beige and Grey.

This flooring looks exactly like wood and you cannot tell the difference! My husband is a general contractor and I can’t even begin to count how many times his team has had to replace wood floors. They just don’t play nicely with water and we wanted something more durable for our busy household. With our three dogs, lots of comings and goings and daily life the LifeProof Rigid Vinyl Flooring will be perfect for us. It’s completely waterproof, scratch-resistant and stain-resistant and has a hand scraped look like real wood. It feels good underfoot too!

With two of these rooms being our home offices (his and hers) we work, eat and play here. We needed flooring like this from Mohawk Industries that perform well and are tough!

My husband ripped out the old baseboard that was original to this 1962 home.

The installation team sent by The Home Depot did the rest.

Practical and utilitarian for our every day lives, LifeProof Rigid Vinyl is a far better choice for us than hardwoods.

My office has really gotten an upgrade and I’ll be sharing some of the new things that I’ve added. Room reveals coming soon!!

Thank you to LifeProof Flooring for sponsoring this post.

LOVE the floors. I will be transitioning from click clack very loud laminate flooring to vinyl in the near future. Can I ask what shade this is? It seems capable of picking up gray tones as well as beige/brown. What do you think? Thanks and enjoy!

    1. Susan, this is definitely an upgrade from the old click clack of the past! You can click on the links that say LifeProof Flooring within the post for the shade. It does pick up the grey tones nicely! I’ll leave the link for you below as well.

Your floors look lovely and we do need new floors through our house. The issue with the vinyl floors is that they are toxic and offgas causing air pollution. My husband is on oxygen and can’t be exposed to those chemicals. Even simple changes like replacing our shower curtain liner from vinyl to fabric has made a huge difference. Actually, I would be wary of exposing such small dogs to those chemicals. Of course, I wish you and your dogs well and hope that there are no ill effects from the toxicity.

    1. You can go to the link in my post and scroll down to learn all about how Lifeproof made the conscious decision to ensure that all of its LVP flooring contains no ortho-phthalates and more. Thanks for your concern Josephine!

  7. Jayne Finkbohner says:

I absolutely love your floors!! There has always been a stigma if you had vinyl flooring, but the technology with these floors is incredible! You can’t tell the hardwood from the vinyl. And certain climates and location due to weather are not friendly to hardwood flooring. I think you made such a smart and beautiful choice in your flooring and the color! The more I see and read about vinyl flooring the happier I am with this as my choice for the home my hubby and I are building right now in Nevada. A flooring specialist in the business for last 25 years said that where we are building is so dry that it is not friendly to wood flooring and the brought out samples and asked me which one was wood and which vinyl. I could not tell. That was the beginning of me being won over to this luxury plank vinyl flooring. You just reaffirmed by showing how beautiful your rooms look with it laid! Your dogs are adorable as well! Thank you!

    1. Sounds like you really did your homework and made a great choice Jayne! We have bamboo flooring in our master bedroom, ceramic tile in the remainder of the house and chose this vinyl for 3 of the bedrooms. In Florida we deal with humidity and this was the perfect fit!

  8. We recently used a luxury vinyl in my mother’s home and she loves it. We’re hoping to do something similar to your coloring in our office and finally get rid of the carpet we “temporarily” laid down a few years ago. Everything turned out really pretty and I’m sure you’re enjoying how easy it is to clean as well.

    1. We’ve had the flooring for about a month now and I LOVE it!! Hope you get to check out LifeProof at The Home Depot when you are ready to work on your home my friend!

      1. Cindy Mann says:

  10. Charlotte says:

This past July, my hubby too pulled up the carpeting in the bedrooms and replaced it with vinyl planks. We love it! So many selections – we chose a gray/beige driftwood color.

    1. Such a worthwhile project. Starting from the ground up brings in so much change!

  11. Joann Collin Wickstrom says:

    1. I am in love with the look of our new floors…sounds like you are with yours too!

  12. Is your flooring more grayish or brownish? Debating on this exact flooring. Thanks.

    1. Honestly it depends on the time of day, but it does have a grey cast to it
