The Weekly Edit – A New Series To Love!

Welcome to the weekly edit, a new series that I’ve been thinking about sharing with you for sometime! With my job of many years being internet based I run across all manner of things that I feel are worth sharing. I hope that my time permits me to continue this column on a weekly basis. It’s sort of a rebranding of my Musings series, but edited down to be more precise. Let me know if there is anything else that you’d like to see covered!

Design Digest

I know that it’s trending to paint walls black, or at least very dark. While I do love the look for some rooms and homes it’s not one that I can embrace in our home. I’ve always preferred white walls and neutral furnishings, adding accent colors with pillows, throws and accessories.

When we opened up the kitchen to the family room by removing a breakfast bar, I knew that it was definitely time to renovate the family room as well. I can’t wait to show you more…soon! We removed a wall unit and I sold the leather sectional and gave the other sofa to a friend of our housekeeper. There are always so many in need in our town and I prefer to give directly to those folks when possible.

I purchased a pair of this exact white slipcovered sofa from Grandin Road shown above and we now have them in place. They seem extremely well made and boy oh boy…so VERY comfortable!! The slipcovers are a performance fabric and being white, I made a seat cover for each by cutting this matelasse coverlet in half lengthwise. Use pinking shears if you are doing this and with a fabric such as this the edges won’t fray. You could also use some of this Fray Check to help seal the edges. So far I’m loving the comfort level and look of these Grandin Road sofas more than my Pottery Barn set that I talked about in this post! Highly recommend if you’ve been looking!

Hoorah!! My oven finally arrived from Italy and I can’t wait to have it installed! More on this later, but I’ve been taking a poll on Instagram as to what to name her. Any suggestions? If so, then I’d love to have you let me know in the comments section below! You can find this oven at Appliances Connection. Once it’s installed I’ll have a full post and review for you. In the meantime it’s sitting in the crate waiting patiently!

Fashion Favorites

We are coming to the crunch of holiday time and for me it’s going to be all about the comfy and cozy. Our kids will be coming in from California and we will all be spending time relaxing together, with possibly a party to attend and seeing some friends. I’ve just ordered a few staples from one of my go to sources for fashion for years…Chicos. I needed to update my black pants wardrobe. I ordered these Travelers Petite Essential Slim Pants as well as the Travelers Petite Classic No Tummy Pants. I’ve had both of these slacks before and wear them when out and about and not just for travel. They are comfortable and very slimming, always a benefit to looking chic. I also picked up a pair of these fun Foil Print Leggings for casual chic dress and will pair them with this Double Sided Velour Tunic during the holidays. And for every day I stocked up on my favorite leggings that have a cell phone pocket and look great with sneakers, these suede ballet slides or boots. Take a look at Chicos…so many fabulous pieces for the winter season and here is a $20 OFF Coupon Code that is exclusive to my readers!

Best Of Beauty

My daughters always ask me to purchase this set of 32 collagen infused facial mask sheets for them for Christmas. This year I decided to get a set for myself as well and I love to put a sheet on my face while relaxing in the tub! I’m in the process of having all of the old amalgam fillings removed by my excellent dentist (one more to go!). He recommended this toothpaste, which my husband and I both use now.

What To Watch

Have you watched the latest season of FireFly Lane on Netflix? It’s such an entertaining show and if you are lucky enough to have a lifelong BFF you might relate. Then of course there are the Christmas movies to spend time with! I have to be honest that so far I haven’t had the time to watch any, but look forward to watching them with my girls. Our favorite chic flick is the Nancy Myers movie The Holiday, which has been removed from Netflix but is available on Hulu. See more here.

Books And Books

I’m an avid design book devotee and constantly am inspired and learn from a collection of coffee table books. As a dedicated francophile I recently learned about this new book titled Parisian By Design from Rizzoli and have added to my collection. There is a coupon code right now, so don’t miss out!

I’m deep into the NYTimes best seller by Jodi Picoult entitled “Wish You Were Here” and Netflix as signed on to adapt this as feature film, so read it first!

Links I Love

This eucalyptus and orange scented soy candle was a gift I purchased for several women this year and it arrived next day. Speaking of candles, wax drip can be annoying from dinner tapers and these real wax coated tapers with remote are amazing! So much so that I came back for another set after ordering!

With the mess of daily life and pets around here, I find the Little Green Portable Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner to be essential to maintain a clean home! This dry shampoo is my lifesaver in-between shampoos, especially since I’ve been letting my hair grow long. It also is a great root touch up between colorings! You and I both know that ads are necessary for content creators like myself, so that we can continue to work and make some money for the hours that we put into our jobs. It can be annoying and I’m sorry, but it’s necessary. One aspect of on-line life though that is more than annoying is when a website won’t let you read content unless you set up an account. To the rescue comes Hop The Paywall, so check it out the next time this happens (you are welcome 😉)

Weekly Tip

We are working on DIY building our new pantry right now. As I check my storage containers I wanted to share this tip to clean yours. To remove odors (glass or plastic), soak food storage containers in a mixture of hot water and a few teaspoons of dry ground mustard. After a few hours, wash the container with soap and water and the odor should be gone! This is my favorite glass kitchen container stackable storage set.
