Coastal Style Home Tour: Beach Cottage in California

A coastal style home tour and today I’m so excited to share this newest edition in our series with you!

For this home tour, we’re heading to the west coast, specifically Southern California. Our home decor inspiration comes from a light-filled renovated cottage that perfectly illustrates when beachy vibes meet homey elegance.

Renovated in 2016 by the White Sands Coastal Development, (see more on Houzz) this cottage built around the early 20th century highlights the sophisticated simplicity of aesthetic coastal design.

This Charming Beach Cottage Is A California Dream Come True

The first thing you’ll notice in this mid-size living room is the soft blue and white color scheme.
I love how this color combination brings out the whites in the wood floors, while still creating a laid-back vibe.

Decorative metallic touches, such as the framed seashell artwork and the gold 6-light chandelier, pair beautifully with the throw pillows and the lush ottoman.

To create more space in this home from the early 20th century, the living room ceiling was pitched. Now, the space is open and filled with natural light.

There is a small guest bathroom directly across the living room. Light blue walls in this room provide a lovely backdrop for a white framed mirror that reflects the natural light surrounding it.

Adding a rustic touch to the overall softness of the color scheme are a bamboo bar table, a jute pot plant, ceramic vases stone washed in beige and blue and wooden beads in beige and blue. Delightful, right?

Walking through the hallway, the designers carried the beachy decor style effortlessly using understated details.
A light wood console table displays pale blue books, turquoise glass pebbles and a natural coral, enhancing the coastal theme.

This little guest bathroom is perfect for entertaining guests in style. Against the beautiful blue floral wallpaper, the beveled mirror creates a charming focal point while the white marble floors go perfectly with the brand-new wainscoting.

Coastal Chic Kitchen:

In the kitchen, golden hardware and rattan stools added a boho touch to the coastal theme. This combo complements the pale blue and white cabinets charmingly. It looks so pretty!

Thanks to the double French doors that lead to the outdoors, this quaint dining room is fully lit with natural light.

We can see white chairs with light blue seats on one side of the table, while on the opposite side, there’s a striped upholstered bench.
An abstract painting in coral and blue shades adds a boho feel to the dining setting, which is topped by a stunning bead chandelier.

Beachy & Feminine Bedroom:

Serene and feminine, the color scheme changes a bit in this bedroom.

Pretty pink hues and playful touches give this bedroom a youthfully fresh style. Together with the pink and blue accent pillows, a funky hanging lamp made from shell beads adds a beachy touch.

Now, this bathroom is a total show-stopper!

As part of the renovations, the design team transformed one bathroom into a Jack-and-Jill one, adding a double vanity while keeping the toilet and shower separate.

The double mirrors, pendant lights and hardware work beautifully with the marble countertops and light blue cabinets. The design keeps the coastal theme, but the golden elements give it a luxurious feel.

In one bedroom, the blue and white color scheme comes back. The designers painted the walls with a soft blue shade and paired it with white wainscoting.

This light and airy bedroom features soft white bedding, drape curtains, and an elegant arched headboard with a row of dark piping. The dark piping makes a lovely contrast against wall.
Extra details like the lumbar cushion, throw blanket and porcelain lamp shade add a subtle pop of color and texture.

Indoor plants and flowers give the home an organic look while adding a splash of color throughout.

The renovation project included custom built-ins and closets to create more storage space for the client’s growing family.
All the extra storage makes the home more functional, helping to keep it clutter-free.
The picturesque entryway illustrates this design choice perfectly.
