How To Set Up A Home Coffee Station

A coffee station can be a great space to carve out for coffee lovers and home baristas, and here are some essential tips to help you get started:

  • Choose a suitable location: Look for a convenient spot in your kitchen where you can set up your coffee bar. Consider factors such as available counter space, accessibility and proximity to water source.
  • Select a dedicated surface: Determine whether you have an available countertop or if you need to create a dedicated surface for your coffee bar. You can use a small table, a bar cart, or even a shelving unit!
  • Clear the area: Remove any clutter or unnecessary items from the chosen spot to make room for your coffee bar. Clean the area thoroughly to ensure a fresh start!

Gather essential equipment: Here are some common items you’ll need for your coffee bar:

Coffee Bar Ideas From Our Kitchen

In my kitchen we now have this small area that is in-between the pantry and the refrigerator. It works out well for our coffee station since it has a large cabinet over the coffee bar and a bank of drawers underneath. I’m not a fan of kitchen countertop clutter, so what isn’t needed on a daily basis is stored.

Our daily coffee is made in the Cafe Appliances 10 Cup Drip Coffee Maker. We’ve had this beautiful machine for over 2 years now and have had no issues with it. We love the design of this so much that we also have this one in our beach house in white!

A more recent purchase is this Coffee And Tea Kettle With Gooseneck. We had a different hot water kettle but my son in law suggested this when our kids were here recently for two weeks. It makes a huge difference! I tend to make specialty coffees and teas most afternoons and this heats the water to the exact temperature that you want it and can keep it hot for hours. My husband makes pour-over coffee for his afternoon drink and the spout design is essential. You won’t regret purchasing this if you’re in need of a new hot water kettle!

This is the French press that I use most often and keep out on the coffee bar.

Coffee Station Organization

  • Organize your supplies: Arrange your coffee-making essentials in an organized manner. Here are a few suggestions:
    • Place your coffee maker and grinder on the counter or dedicated surface.
    • Store your coffee beans, filters, and other supplies in labeled containers or jars.
    • Hang mugs on hooks or place them on a dedicated mug rack.
    • Keep spoons, stirrers, and other utensils in a nearby drawer or container for easy access.

Make sure to have plenty of mugs on hand. We enjoy using my own handmade mugs from back when I used to be a potter!

    • Add decorative elements like plants, artwork, or signs related to coffee.
    • Include a small tray for sugar, sweeteners, or flavored syrups.
    • Set up a small basket or tray to keep things neat or for storing napkins or coffee stirrers.
    • Consider placing artwork or a small chalkboard or a framed menu with different coffee options.

  1. I just created a coffee bar from an old wall unit. It was painted white to begin with, so I just painted the inside a beautiful shade of blue then wallpapered the inside back walls. Everything came out perfect.

    1. Hi Rose. That sounds like a wonderful project and I’d love to see it!

  2. You always show such good inspirations. They’re uncluttered without showing other designers. I always look forward to your ideas.
