One look at the front door tells you to expect to come into a home that embraces a color filled life! Daring to be a bit different, meet Kristi of The Pickled Rose who embraces every day life in her central Kansas home. A little bit boho and a whole lot of bold makes for the perfect mingling in her home.
Kristi is a true delight and as colorful as the bold accents in her home. I had the chance to spend some time with her last year on a trip to Waco, which you can read more about here.
She has always had a love for home decor and really found her niche as she and husband began renovating their 100-year-old-farmhouse.
“By the time I met my husband, he had been living in our house for six years. He had started the remodel process immediately but because he was doing all the work himself, it made for a slow-go.”
“Fast forward 12 years and we have pretty much completed the entire house. We have literally gutted everything, taken out interior walls, added a two-story addition and screened-in porch.”
“My decorating style has changed somewhat over the years but my love for a traditional farmhouse has not. Mixing old with new can be found all throughout our home. I love the character and personality that an old piece of furniture can bring to a space but I love the freshness of something new.”
Kristi’s great dane Harley is somewhat of a star over on her Instagram feed. I just love him!
“One thing I knew for sure is I wanted to create a home that friends and family could come to and feel like they could put their feet up.”
Dare To Be Different
“For years I decorated our farmhouse the way I thought social media wanted me to, primarily with neutrals and whites, but I could’t deny my love for color and over the years it kept creeping back in.”
“You can find color the minute you walk up to my yellow front door. Surrounding myself with it makes me happy and color is the answer. I like to use throw pillows, furniture pieces and paint to bring out my favorite blues and yellows.”
“I have learned over the years not to get sucked into the pressures of social media, but my advice is to do what you love and not what you think someone else will love.”
Kristi’s signature colors of blue and yellow, but in softer tones in the master bedroom. She makes great use of the small confines of living in a typical old farmhouse structure.
The master bathroom remodel is one that I watched come to life over on Kristi’s Instagram feed. She enjoys working with brands and this one was a collaboration that she was proud of!
Her colorful farmhouse style home boasts a large walk-in closet. It’s evident that Kristi has a passion for fashion in color too!
The shiplap walls are artfully layered with a mix of old and new done right.
