Pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere! I love them all and am such a chameleon when it comes to decorating in my home that I have built up a nice collection over the years. In this post I’m going to share a few images and tips of how I start decorating or designing a FIREPLACE MANTEL for this…the warmest of seasons in terms of getting cozy.
flowers in the sink
Flowers are my favorite way to inspire and fire up my creativity and today’s batch is sitting and soaking up some fresh water in the sink as I dream and sketch in my head. I don’t always go this bold, but for AUTUMN I love a bit of bold color.

I’ve talked about my COPPER CRUSH before and for this mantel-scape (I think that I just made up a new word!) I used the big vintage copper bucket from my mother-in-law. It is old and doesn’t hold water, so I set a bunch of Mason jars inside filled with water.
TIP: This bucket is so tall that the flowers wouldn’t show. I used a bunch of crushed up newspaper down inside to raise the height of the jars. The paper also serves the purpose of catching any water that might slosh out of the bucket accidentally, so as not to ruin a hardwood floor. These huge old vintage copper pieces can be hard to find and quite costly, so I’ve sourced an affiliate link for you below with an affordable similar look.

Next I went to work on the mantel itself. I am so fortunate to have TWO mantels to style, and this one is in the master bedroom. I shared another post with you a few weeks about with FALL MANTEL DECORATING IDEAS IN BLUE and the LIVING ROOM MANTEL with a totally different look to inspire (insert, chameleon emoji). I’m often asked where to find a similar mantel and although ours are vintage that we have ripped out of homes in our business…there are lovely reproductions out there!

Old books or books that were MADE TO LOOK OLD are an inexpensive and interesting addition to a mantel. I often turn them so that back side with the rumpled pages are showing and have done this ever since I sold vintage items in some retail spaces. Not only do they add interest, but can serve as plateaus to elevate.

And the finishing touch that make the mantel speak of fall are the SILK VELVET PUMPKINS. I’ll be talking more about how you can use them for several months and with several looks in a forthcoming post!
