Living Room Before

“I’m Kathy, a Texas native who after 20 years of living around the country and Japan with my recently retired Marine husband has finally settled back home.”

“We live in a single-story ranch style house in Fort Worth with our two kids (11 and 15) and rescue dog close to the cultural district and family.”

Living Room After

“I’ve been blogging for eight years sharing rental friendly decorating tips along with some of our adventures overseas. I am now ecstatic to completely transform our recently purchased home!”

“In the last two and half years I’ve had a ball infusing globally influenced colorful and eclectic designer home tour style into our just under 2,000 square feet residence.”

“Without the restrictions of a rental and a great area for estate sales and second hand finds, decorating this house definitely has been a dream come true!”

“I have degrees in music education, piano, and art and later became certified in interior design to further my love for decorating.”

Eclectic Designer Home Tour – Inspiration

“I love that when you enter our home you are instantly greeted with my piano studio and a floor to ceiling gallery wall.”

“Many art pieces came from my grandparents who were museum docents in Fort Worth and active art collectors. My late aunt who was a talented artist, and my husband who loved searching for art and treasures when we could find free time on deployments.”

Office After

“Clearly my family loved finding fun souvenirs from all the countries we visited in Asia! Definitely my favorite pieces are a pair of bird cages from Kowloon’s bird market in Hong Kong.”

“One of the benefits of moving back to my home town are long-time family connections. A dear friend who babysat me as a child is also an interior designer!  He helped me with two of my room makeovers in my eclectic designer home tour project. These rooms are our daughter’s boho vintage bedroom and my windowless office makeover.  Those two rooms happen to be my favorite in this house!  How could you not love rooms completely covered in bird wallpaper?  I not only gained skill, but the confidence to happily tackle home improvements with the skills and tools I’ve learned.”

Eclectic Designer Home Tour – Favorite Projects

“I completed a favorite DIY that is the hand painted mural in our dining room.  It was a great distraction during quarantine and done with left over wall and furniture paint.  I have shared video tutorials under “Wall Mural” in my instagram stories.”

“Another favorite is a no-sew fringe bedskirt in our master bedroom.  I will unquestionably hot glue fringe onto anything!”

  1. That is a gorgeous home, how you put that together. I love all your pieces you put in the right places . I am from Chicago, moved to Fort Worth 7 years ago. Its funny you mention good places for estate sales and second hand finds. Still trying to familiarize myself with all that. I am a nurse but would love to get certified in interior design myself as I will retire soon. Hopefully I can become as talented as you.

    1. You are so sweet Helen! Thanks for the kind words. I love keeping an eye on Facebook marketplace and weekend estate sales. The Hillcrest area in Dallas has amazing ones but there are plenty in Fort Worth too. You should check out the Mercantile, Benbrook antique mall, and Ties to the past in Fort worth.

I am not one to use a lot of colour in my home but this homeowner has done a masterful job! The colours blend together beautifully and the furniture, artwork and decor pieces give such interest to each space. Beautiful!

    1. Thanks Sharon! I really appreciate that! I love neutral homes too but can’t stay away from color long. lol

    1. Aw thanks! I was nervous but figured it was just paint. I use to paint a lot more in college and really enjoyed doing the mural.

I absolutely love the bird wallpaper. Can you please let us know who makes/sells this lovely wall covering. Thanks!

    1. Yes ma’am! It is Woodland Birds from Milton and King. Isn’t it fabulous?

  4. Of all the Home Tours you’ve posted, this is without question my favourite!! Everything is not grey and/or white; they use colour with balanced impunity, and the decor is amazing. It’s not a carbon copy or echo of countless other homes, but unique, individual and loaded with personality. I LOVE the artwork, and the Bird wallpaper and gorgeous avocado desk under it. Harmonious, interesting and as unique as a fingerprint. BEAUTIFUL home! Thank you for showing us~
    Hoping for more like this?

  5. Welcome home Kathy. Love the wallpaper. Thank you for reminding me of that magic word CONFIDENCE.

  6. This was amazing, between the colors and the beautiful accents. The chandy over the piano, the picture with the birds and light green background and the tied up drapes add so much personality to the rooms. I love too many things to list, but a job well done. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Hi Diana! She has a wonderful eclectic style and I’m glad that you agree!
