My French Style Living Room Styled For Fall

French style living room styled for autumn

If you are a regular reader, I shared my kitchen and family room dressed up for the fall season last week (find that post here). Today I’m happy to show how I’ve styled my French style living room for the autumn season as well!

While the other rooms are new, things haven’t changed much in our living room. I’m happy with the way that this room looks and the basic furnishings! As a blogger and influencer I’ve had the opportunity dozens of times over to change out the furniture with a variety of sponsors. Most I turn down, because I believe in staying true to my vision, so know that. New isn’t necessarily better, although if my husband had his way this room would be a lot more modern! What are your thoughts on that? Do you and your partner embrace similar styles?

Style Additions For Fall

When I start styling a room seasonally the first thing that I do it to change out the rug. This rug is a favorite from Ruggable and I’ve had it for over 3 years now. Not only do I love the cream traditional Persian style, but it is softly muted and appropriate for any room or season! I’ve thrown this in my washer several times and it still looks brand new. Find this Ruggable here.

Then furniture goes back in place and let the styling begin! I always start with the mantel. For fall and winter I removed my French style “fireplace screen” that you’ve probably seen before. It’s a vintage headboard that I cut down and painted cream. Birch logs and two oversized velvet pumpkins (find the best silk velvet pumpkins on the market here) are arranged inside of the vintage mantel and on either side of the vintage French mirror is a vintage vessel. On the left side is a French zinc body pitcher and on the right a thrift shop find antique olive pot. The pitcher is filled with peacock feathers that I collected this spring and summer on my daily neighborhood walks. Yes, we have lots of wild peacocks right on my street and surrounding area! In the olive pot is a dried palm frond from my garden. They just seemed right for my French style living room seasonal decor!

Coffee Table Styling For Fall

I highly recommend that you seek your own style with collections of things that you love! On this coffee table I have a large vintage clam shell filled with these silk velvet pumpkins (makes sense to me!), an antique alabaster compote dish and several coffee table design books. Keeping one book open to a fall toned image adds depth and stacking an arrangement on the other books gives interest. A favorite candle that I purchased in Paris recently is next to an antique French beaded ceiling light.

I hope that my home serves as inspiration of how you can achieve a collected look over time. The vintage green ottoman with bullion fringe was found only about a year ago in a thrift shop, as my daughter and I were poking around. I’d been looking for something along those lines for my French style living room and was patient until I found just that!

A corner of my French style living room has some deeper tones that are perfect for a moody feel. Moody, but without painting my walls a deep color as is trending right now. I’ve seen that trend come and go over the years and it’s just not for me.

In closing, one of my best pieces of advice when you style a room. Step back after you think you’ve finished. Take a good look at the flow of color, pattern and texture. Rooms should have movement as well as a balance of negative and positive space.

On another wall it’s a mix between my French style living room with a vintage tropical bird oil painting, reflecting the area that I live in.

A Little Peek

We have a couple of outdoor projects coming soon as the weather will hopefully begin to cool off here at some point. We did just do a cushion refresh on our 25 year old Restoration Hardware furniture that I wanted to tell you about. I worked with RSH Decor for these new Sunbrella cushions and they were a wonderful company to work with, based in So. Carolina! Check them out if you are considering new cushions and you can also find them on Amazon here!

Christmas decor will be coming soon enough, but in the meantime…happy fall!

    1. So kind of you to say Kim and I appreciate that 🤎 Happy October!

Love your living room, especially the fireplace mantel.
Any ideas where I could find one similar, even with a heating element? Thanks!

    1. Thanks so much Melanie and the fireplace mantel was one that we tore out of a home we were remodeling. It’s vintage, so if you’re looking for something older I would try flea markets this fall!

Love you style in a Florida home. I’m from Naples, and so much that I loved in my CT home, doesn’t look right in SW FL. Your posts help me navigate both regions of the US🤩👍🏼👍🏼

    1. I don’t believe that I’ve seen anyone else do that before Robin, but it’s fun and whimsical and why not!

  4. Ok have to ask how do you get a rug of that size into a washing machine? I don’t get it.
I love the ottoman and I also think those velvet pumpkins are the best. I have a few myself.

    1. Hi Nanci, The rug is an 8′ x 10′ and Ruggable rugs are thin and pliable. It fits perfectly in my full size LG front loading washer.
