Make Your Guest Room Bed Extra Cushy:

Renovating the basics of your guest room will make the entire space feel updated and refreshed. But it’s not just about how it looks but also how it feels, especially when it comes to bed arrangements.

Making sure your guests get a good night’s sleep should be your top priority. Don’t just throw any mattress in there, get a comfortable one!

If the mattress in your guest room is overdue for a replacement, consider going for a memory foam alternative like this queen-sized mattress by Zinus Serenity. Our current guest room is a shared space with my home office, so we have this queen-sized Intex air mattress bed that can be tucked away when not in use.
For a twin option, I really like this Dreamer Hybrid twin mattress.

A practical way to upgrade your guest bed without spending big bucks is with a mattress pad, like this one from JML that’s incredibly soft thanks to its high-quality microfiber.

Elevate Your Guest Room With These Practical Furniture Pieces:

Giving your guests storage space will make their stay far more comfortable.

With clean lines and a traditional style, this Mainstays dresser is a perfect fit for any bedroom. It’s size is ideal to maximize space in a small bedroom while providing enough drawers to store your guests’ personal items.

If you have enough space, you might want to consider adding an ottoman with storage compartments or even a small desk.

A space-saving foldable bed frame is another smart furniture piece that works great if you have a smaller space. Or you could opt for an enchanting daybed, like this design by Desert Fields. It has that lovely Provence-inspired look to it I absolutely adore.

Rugs and carpets are just as important as other furniture when planning your guest room. Cushy rugs can add a layer of lush comfort while helping disguise any visible flooring imperfections.

I find classic patterns, and neutral colors are timeless classics that never look outdated. That’s why I love my friend Erin’s My Texas House’ collection.

It has different styles to suit almost any home, but my favorites are rugs like “Rosalie” “Austin” and “Jessie”. These designs mix abstract subtle shapes in hues of creamy whites, deep blues and soft greys.
Color schemes like these work perfectly to give the room a stylish flair without overpowering the room.

Once you’ve gotten the basics out of the way, it is time to add some charming elements to tie this room together!

Make your Guest Bedroom Extra Inviting with Decor Accents:

A plush and creamy comforter is just the thing to create snuggly bed. You can also cozying it up with a soft velvety duvet in muted tones to complement other linens in the room.
Both pieces come in different colors, but I would stick to creamy and neutral shades to enhance the serene feel we’re aiming for.

Add an extra blanket or two in case it gets cold at night while your guests are sleeping. I love the look of this chenille fringe throw and this tufted diamond cotton throw.
These designs have rich layered textures that instantly bring an air of lushness to the room.

To add more comfort to your guest room, make sure your pillows are in prime shape. My top pick? These cushy Serta pillows, which are the perfect blend of cozy and firm. They’re even hypoallergenic!

You can add decorative pillows –like these gorgeous ones– on top of the bed or loveseat to cozy up the room and add colorful touch.

Final Touches

A little extra effort can make all the difference in your guest stay experience. Here are some of my favorite tips:

Deep clean the room:

Clean the room thoroughly! Clean the windows, mirrors and vacuum every corner. (Click HERE for some cleaning hacks I’ve learned throughout the years that always work, especially if you’re short on time!)
Consider getting a high-quality vacuum to keep your rugs and carpets in tip-top shape.

Set the bed up to make it feel like a hotel:

Invest in crisp cotton sateen sheets and spritz your pillows with a subtle scented pillow mist. Add a couple of fresh flowers in a vase on the dresser. Make any difficult sleeper’s night more enjoyable by setting up a white noise sound machine on the nightstand.

Don’t forget to arrange your throw blankets and fluff the pillows to complete the hotel-vibe.

Prepare a mini-bar for your guests

Keep a few snacks and beverages ready for your guests. I prefer to set up a mini bar of sorts in the guestroom with a coffeemaker, a kettle and a goodie basket filled with different snacks.

Make a custom goodie basket:

Similarly, you can elevate the experience even more by making a guest basket and personalizing it for your visitor. In a welcoming basket, I usually put fresh towels, a couple of sparkly water bottles, toiletries my guests may need if they forgot something at home, like toothbrush, toothpaste, soap or deodorant.
I also like to add any information they need during their stay, such as the Wi-Fi password or local map if it’s their first time visiting.

Making a goodie basket doesn’t take much time and it will make your guests feel pampered and welcomed!

Make the room smell fresh:

As a finishing touch, appeal to the sense of smell. Add an air purifier and create a calming and cozy atmosphere by lighting up a scented candle before your guests arrive.
This vanilla-infused candle is one of my favorites. I especially love the fact that it’s not just delicious, but it also doubles as a decor accent!

  1. By Fall I will have a new guest room/office, which will include a Murphy Bed. Any thoughts on putting together a comfy space?

    1. A Murphy bed is such a great idea! I just ordered a queen sized sofa bed for mine (won’t arrive until summer) because I want to have a spot to sit on in my office besides my desk. Have you considered that as an option?

  2. I love to leave some mints or chocolates in a glass dish for my guests along with your suggested items. I just finished updating my granddaughter’s room at our house. I am using the same colors and your use of the ottoman just convinced me to get one. The boho look is sooo her!! Thank you for sharing your ideas. Peace and Blessings to you and your family.

    1. That’s a marvelous addition to suggest Helen and certainly would make any guest feel special! Lucky granddaughter to have her own room in your home…enjoy!
