Hosting a small get together for the holiday this year? It can still be beautiful, budget friendly and fun! Whether it’s setting a beautiful table, holiday floral arranging or centerpiece ideas…we have you covered with a few tips in this post!
As far back as I can remember I tried to make my every day surroundings beautiful. This quote is a life long credo and it sure spreads joy to those who come around! “I’m going to make everything around me beautiful and that will be my life” Elsie de Wolfe. I truly believe this that creating special out of the every day is worth doing! As for a holiday meal, even if it’s just the two of you it can be a lovely ritual. A treat!
If you’re hosting a small get together that involves just the immediate family it will be remembered. It’s these moments that are special and some of what I recall looking back in time.
Hosting A Small Get Together
Say It With Flowers
Utilize flowers of the season, whether gathered & foraged from your surroundings or purchased. I always start with florals and if I can’t make it in time to have fresh there is always faux! For this dinner for four (which ended up actually being just 3 of us) it was peach garden roses. My absolute favorite source for roses is Grace Rose Farm! My recommended bouquet for the holiday is this one – The Rosey Posey Bouquet. I have received roses from them many times and sent them out as gifts to my daughter in San Francisco. Speaking of gifts…they have an incredible gift set and you just might want to treat yourself (I have one, will be showing it soon)! Find that GIFT SET HERE.
These garden roses were such a treat and have that old fashioned feminine scent! I added some to a dough bowl and scattered a few more on the table on both sides of the bowl. With flowers like these I don’t feel that you need much else to make it lovely!
Mix real and faux! On the backs of the dining chairs I added faux boxwood wreaths for the holiday season only. Each wreath has been revived with one of the real garden roses.
These roses were definitely the stand out in hosting a small get together and my family loved the scent!
These are very similar to the boxwood wreaths that I have – FAUX BOXWOOD WREATH and this is similar to the ribbon CHAMPAGNE GOLD RIBBON. I used this spray on the wreaths – FAUX SNOW. Pick up a can…you’ll use it on lots of things!
On The Table
Since we would be dining into the evening I added some light to the table. Whether hosting a small get together or a large gathering the glow of candles give intimacy to the setting. I opted for totally faux here and have listed everything at the bottom of this post!
I have been making these pink pinecones for years and on of my most popular posts ever shows you how! – MY SECRET METHOD FOR PAINTING PINK PINE CONES. If you’re having guests then these make a sweet little gift for them to take home! Under each pine cone is a vintage napkin that has faded to perfection. One of the things that I love to collect and it makes the meal special!
The wine and water goblets are acrylic, as well as the Christmas ornaments that are randomly scattered on the table. Juxtaposing inexpensive and budget friendly pieces such as those alongside higher end dinnerware makes for an easy way to entertain.
Enjoy your holiday entertaining and take pleasure in the gathering, no matter the size this year!
