Setting A Table For Two – French Vintage Style
Setting a table for two is something that I’ve been doing a lot of these past few months! In this post I’m sharing this French vintage style tablescape that might inspire you to make things special as well. Even if it’s just the two of you…
It’s the little things that I’ve been trying to focus on lately. Spending my time at home is not something new to me, but it’s been different for sure. I count my blessings daily for having this home and shelter as my nest. Although I can’t be with all of my family I’m making the best of it. I’ve been doing a lot of cooking and experimenting with a new vegan lifestyle (check out my walnut burger recipe) and I hope to share some of the recipes with you soon. I have lots of ideas and tips to share if you’re interested! Will you let me know…either in the comments or via email?
A French Vintage Style Table For Two
Along with the massive amount of cooking, I’m always rearranging…adding and subtracting. Buying a few new things and making things as beautiful as possible. It just makes me happy and keeps me sane. “I am going to make everything around me beautiful – that will be my life.” Undoubtedly that you’ve seen that quote from Elsie De Wolfe before and it might be a good time to apply it now. So this table for two is charming and with a bit of French style it has me dreaming of past trips to France.
I pulled out some of my favorite pieces and will source what I can for you below. Plus…keep reading because I’ve designed a pretty FREE PRINTABLE to go along with this post!
I’ve had these lace looking plates for several years now and they are some of my favorites. Layering with dinner plates, salad plates and sometimes a charger plate brings depth to the setting. The gold flatware is vintage and dyed some old white linen napkins in an ombre effect (tutorials HERE). Most of the other pieces on the table are vintage as well…I’ll link some similar ones below.

The dinner plates and they are so worthwhile to collect if you can. If budget is a concern, for a table for two you’d only need two plates;-)

The large wine glasses are something that I just treated myself to, because the price is great & I know they will sell out! – LINK
Above all adding vintage pieces infuses charm into any table setting! It can be something as simple as an old wine bottle that you keep for years. This one has seen many a table for two and more and is covered in wax of all colors from the candles used. If bottles could talk this would have tales to tell!
Finally, look around your home and see what you have put away. This is a good time to clear out clutter and then perhaps you can treat yourself to something new. Combine the every day with those things that you might save for special times, because now is as good a time as any to make every day beautiful!

Romantic and peaceful table. Being at home all the time does mean lots of rearranging. It’s kind of fun.
Thanks Linda…it is fun to rearrange and makes everything look new to you!
Lovely!!! So many beautiful items. You inspire me!
Thank you and I’m happy to inspire you Debbie! xo
Can you provide sources for the drip candles?
Hi Dawn. They are just regular candles and the a/c vent blows on them making for a cool drip. I do have a tutorial that you might find helpful though and these drip all kinds of crazy!

The table is gorgeous, as is everything you do! I would love to hear the reason behind your decision to go vegan as well as any tips and recipes you have to share 🙂
Jody, check back tomorrow because I’m sharing a delicious vegan recipe and my reasons for this decision. I’ll be sharing more of that topic as well from time to time.
Lovely table. Interested in your new vegan lifestyle. At this point in life, I think there are more things I don’t eat that what I do eat.
I hear you loud and clear Myrna and I cannot believe how much better I feel since going vegan. A scrumptious recipe and some info about my decision will be on the blog tomorrow!
Oh I love your gorgeous color combinations Janet! I’ve been wanting those lacy plates and gold glasses for a long time, too! Thanks for another beautiful inspirational post! 💗
Thanks Barb! I’ve had my plates for several years, but the gold glasses are a newer acquisition and so affordable! Check out my link
Hi Janet
Your table is so beautiful, peaceful, serene. Just what one needs during those days.
I really admire your bravery with things. Did you post a picture of your dining room cabinet you got for free? I was interested to see what color you chose.
Peonies, candles, and gold-embellished crystal … really, what more does any table need to be the setting for a night of quiet romance?
Lovely, Janet!
