Master Bedroom Makeover Tips And Reveal

Master bedroom makeover tips. What to do first and then put together a look to love.

Do you tend to live with a room a long time before attempting a makeover? As I’ve mentioned before, we have lived in our home for over 25 years now (yikes!) and our master bedroom has seen several incarnations and styles! I’ve been craving a fresh look for several years and when working with Modsy (see that post HERE) I was totally inspired to clear the clutter and get going on a fresh look.

Today I’m sharing a two fold article, a subtle way to decorate a master bedroom for fall and the reveal of our new master bedroom! These master bedroom makeover tips have been generously sponsored by Birch Lane and I always enjoying working with them and sharing what I find with you.

Not that the before was ugly, but I wanted to achieve a clean no fuss look. Less of the frills and ruffles and perhaps a function of maturing taste! Don’t feel badly about change in style, because change is a good thing. What’s that saying? The only thing permanent is change? I’m linking to a few “before posts” so that you can see what I did, and hopefully learn from that.

All of these looks are still possible to achieve with my new design by a swap of a blanket, some artwork or a fresh mantel styling. These master bedroom makeover tips can be budget friendly and don’t forget to shop your own home, do DIY and that simple additions can create a fresh new look. I had this bench already and brought it in from another room. The beauty of neutrals and not sure that I’ll leave it in here, but with flexible decorating it can go elsewhere.

Master bedroom makeover tips to start with:

  • Organize and purge

I have been on a purging rampage in my home for quite some time now. Think about getting rid of stuff that is cluttering up your life and either donate or sell. I’ve been doing a bit of both, but honestly I’m finding that selling is not what it used to be and a tax write-off can be better. It feels so good to have cleaned out the clutter! This new cabinet holds extra sheets and blankets and keeps them close at hand.

  • A fresh coat of paint

I will freely admit to have cheated and this room could use a fresh coat of paint. We are waiting for the weather to cool down so that the windows can be open and with not a lot in the room it will be simple to do.

  • Window coverings

Done! What a difference the new cordless blinds make and you can read more about them in THIS POST. I decided to add another layer to our master bedroom French doors with these GORGEOUS VELVET BLACKOUT CURTAINS from my sponsor Birch Lane. They are luxurious, soft to the touch, drape nicely and well priced!

Subtle Way To Add Fall To Your Bedroom

A neutral palette allows you to decorate seasonally and that has always been something that I love to do! Fall colors can be added with a new blanket, a cozy cable knit throw, some seasonal pillows in darker tones, a wreath. I’ve linked everything that I’m using in this bedroom makeover below.

Vintage nightstands…I may replace them and not sure just yet. I love mixing vintage pieces with new to give a room it’s own unique style!

Final master bedroom makeover tip

The largest piece in your bedroom is generally the bed. The style of your bed can influence the look of your room and I always recommend looking for that one piece first. Remember…it’s easy to switch out sheets and blankets but a bed and headboard usually sticks around for several years in your home.
