Modern Coastal Inspired Home Tour

These homeowners dream of settling closer to the ocean someday. In the meantime, this modern coastal inspired home tour proves that you don’t need to live by the beach to decorate with coastal sensibilities! Let’s head in and take a look around for inspiration…

Modern Coastal Inspired Home

Make no mistake that Jane and her husband Dave are all in with the color blue! As residents of Colorado, you might not imagine that this vibe is something that would be en vogue. Fears of acceptance should be put aside and your home needs to suit YOUR tastes, needs and wants. We think that Jane captures the spirit of the sea perfectly in the foothills of the Rockies!

Light Filled Living Room

Jane is a wife and mom to two grown daughters (and grandmother to four little grands). She loves creating beauty in her home, entertaining, and gathering together the people she loves.

After working in the legal profession for many years, I’m now happily blogging full time at Jane at Home.
I share my love of all things home, including decorating ideas, my latest finds and home updates. You’ll also find the occasional recipe, and inspiring spaces from favorite designers and bloggers.”

When I’m not working on my next project or post, you can usually find me hanging out with my husband Dave and our English bulldog, Baxter, in our home near the foot of the Rocky Mountains.Since winters here can be long, we try to escape to warmer climates whenever we can and hope to move to the coast when Dave retires. In the meantime, I like to bring a coastal vibe to our home by keeping things light and airy and using plenty of blue and white.”

“We moved into our current home as a new build a little over ten years ago and have been updating and changing things ever since.  I don’t think I’ll ever get to the point where I feel like our house is “done.”

“One of the most dramatic changes we’ve made was painting all of the (formerly beige) walls and ceilings white (with Simply White and White Dove, both by Benjamin Moore). I’m still amazed at what a difference a coat of white paint can make!”

“After we finished painting, my husband added panel molding to the walls in our living room, entryway, dining room, hallway, and the wall behind our bed.” You can read all about how to install panel molding HERE

A Happy Hearth Room

A happy and sun filled small space to warm up by the fire on a cold day. A pair of slipcovered chairs are perfect for relaxing.  Jane’s signature Classic Blue clearly brings in that modern coastal inspired home vibe.

Kitchen Renovations On A Budget

“Last year, we updated our formerly dark brown kitchen by painting the cabinets white and the island blue.  We also replaced the gold granite countertops with white quartz, added a subway tile backsplash, and updated the sink, faucet, door & drawer pulls and light fixture.”

“One set of upper cabinets was removed and replaced with shelving, which really opened up this space!”

Modern Master Bedroom

Along with the shared living areas of Jane’s home, the bedrooms echo that modern coastal look as well. The master bedroom is modern, but not cold…with lots of linens changed out seasonally.

The shelving unit in the master bedroom is neatly organized and accented with quiet seaside and soft natural elements. Texture brings this area to life.

Guest Bathroom

Our current project involves updating our guest bathroom. It also had dark brown cabinetry and gold granite countertops, so we painted the vanity, replaced the countertop with white quartz, and updated the light fixtures. My husband just finished tearing out the beige tile from the shower and replacing it with fresh white subway tile.  This bathroom used to be one of the darkest rooms in our home, but I think it might now be the brightest! Next on the agenda for this space is doing something with the beige floor–we’ll either replace it or I’ll paint it using a stencil.”

A Pretty Patio

“I’d love to tackle the master bathroom, but we’ll probably take a little break between projects–especially with spring coming.  Once warmer weather arrives, our attention is usually directed to the outdoors–tending our flower beds, pruning trees, and enjoying sunsets on the patio with a glass of wine.”

I love the blue and white looks so fresh and clean

    1. The cleanest colors in my opinion Mikki!

  7. Beautiful! But it does make a difference what kind of windows you have. Here we have small minimal windows I am assuming to keep our homes cooler inside. We rely on lighting to make the rooms bright

    1. Hi Lorrie! We live in Florida as you probably know, but have many sets of French doors and since they are newer it is nice and cool in here. So I feel that it also depends on the kind and age of windows as well.
