Modern French country decor is inspiring and trending for the future. In this post I’m sharing a beautiful and simple home tour to inspire you.
As the years go by it seems that ornate and overdone decorating is out and simple home decorating is trending. We tend not to go overblown as in victorian times and that’s evident in all generations of home stylists. Meet my lovely friend Courtney Davey of the website Tuft & Trim, who is a talented interior designer and truly delightful! She balances her home design business while being a young mom of a toddler with such grace. Her home embodies a softly feminine style, while not being too girly. Let’s go inside and you’ll see just what I mean! By the way, Courtney does eDesign and if you like her style…she’s your girl.
I’m quoting here from Courtney and as you can see she has a clean modern French country aesthetic: “I’ve always been passionate about interiors and remember rearranging my friends rooms in elementary school. After getting my degree in Interior Design years later, I was determined to get to work and learn from hands on experiences.”
“Well, little did I know how “hands on” our home would be. In 2016 my husband and I got married and moved across the country from California to Virginia Beach, VA where we bought our first home. For the past 3 years we’ve slowly transformed our outdated house into a cozy home, one DIY project at a time.”
“Because of our limited budget, we’ve been forced to think outside the box and get our hands dirty. We’ve done everything from laying plank floors, installing subway tile, knocking down walls to wiring lighting, scraping off popcorn ceiling, and building a fireplace wall and mantle.”
“Throughout this journey, I started a blog called Tuft & Trim so I could share our home projects, DIY tutorials, and design inspiration. When I’m not sharing our home, I share some of my client projects which cover a wide range of styles. I love being challenged to design around different styles, but my personal taste seems to remain consistent.”
“Our home has slowly evolved to reflect my love for french country and romance. I’m drawn to bright spaces with neutral colors and elegant features like chandeliers, pleated drapery, and ornate mirrors. My goal for our home is to create a cozy and welcoming space where our family enjoys spending time, while also inspiring us with timeless style and personality.”
The nursery that Courtney designed for her adorable son looks like it should be in a Restoration Hardware ad! For sources you can visit her here – LIKEtoKNOW.it. Her use of pale blues and soft greys are so elegant and timeless and simply soothing!
With the use of paint and up to date accessories, the master bathroom has been transformed. Budget updates have taken this home to another level and allowed for splurges on some of the furniture and accessories along the way.
Little by little the couple has been able work on creating a comfortable haven! You can also find and follow my friend Courtney on Instagram here: Tuft And Trim.
I can’t begin to imagine having a nursery like that for when I had my kids. What a treat!

What a beautiful home! And the nursery is perfection! I love Courtney’s vision, and it’s so wonderful that they’ve done so much of it themselves. I always think that makes us love our homes even more! 🙂 Thanks for this great share, Janet!
Hoping you, family and people in harms way get thru hurricane safely.
Thankfully we did not bear the brunt of this horrible storm, and I thank you Marge for your sweet concern!
Where is mantel from or the wood stain you used?
Hi Emily, you’ll have to go to the homeowner’s link in this tour. I don’t know her sources, but maybe you can reach out to her.
