Mid Week Musings & A Birthday Giveaway!

GIVEAWAY HAS NOW BEEN CLOSED & WINNERS HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED VIA EMAIL

Join me today on my birthday, and I have a giveaway at the end of the post!

Just to catch you up on a little bit of this and that and it’s been a good while since I’ve done one of these posts! Let me know if you enjoy them, and if so I’ll try to get on with some more.

DECORATING CHANGES

We are on our way up the beach home for a long weekend and with that comes projects! I recently shared the makeovers of the master bathroom, guest bathroom and the powder room. Next up is the foyer, which is small and I hemmed and hawed over replacing the console. It was a choice of either this blue raffia covered table

Or this one, which is from an Etsy seller… this guy.

Which one do you think I ordered? I’ll be sharing it soon…but below is the foyer currently at the beach. It’s a work in progress, as most homes are! The chandelier is vintage and was hung a bit too high, so we plan on adding more chain and lowering it. As for which table, let’s just say that a bit of gold paint is required! I have a vintage rug for the foyer, but it’s tucked away at the moment since we’ve had workers coming and going recently.

The laundry room at the beach house has been getting a makeover too! It’s nothing fancy and small and has mismatched cabinets. We had to purchase a new washer and dryer, since the old ones stopped functioning efficiently. I LOVE my front loaders at our house (see the makeover HERE), but there just wouldn’t have been enough comfortable space to do this here. Top loaders it was then, and I plan on wallpaper and possibly painting the cabinets (blue!) when time permits. It’s hard to squeeze in the time when we are there because we like to relax on the beach! I mean…not a tough choice, right?!

LIFESTYLE CHANGES

Maybe I mentioned that when the pandemic first started we decided to embrace a vegetarian lifestyle? I understand that this would not be for everyone and thankfully my husband was fully on board. Our decisions were based on several factors and we thought long and hard about them. Firstly, we both need to lower our cholesterol and want to have the best health that we can by food and try to avoid drugs. Secondly we truly love animals and simply didn’t want to include them in our meals any longer. As I said, personal choice.

Speaking of animals, it’s been awhile since I’ve shared our rescue bunny rabbit Mars with you! She is so sweet and getting old and grey, but I hope she’ll be with us for as long as possible.

On to the lifestyle change. We both had blood work drawn about halfway into our vegetarian venture. Neither of our numbers changed 😩 and I’ve been researching what it could possibly be. I’ll share more with you soon, but I had blood drawn this week once again and since our last test we’ve gone completely vegan. That means no dairy or eggs in addition to no vegan junk foods for us. Yes…there is vegan junk food, just like there is KETO junk food! We are doing whole foods plant based for the most part and are committed.

There’s more to this…I hope that my numbers are good, but I’ve lost 15 lbs so far! While I’ve always been thin, my mid section has that typical postmenopausal woman pooch. Ugh!! I need to lose probably another 15 to get that off to where I want it to be. My husband on the other hand is very thin, so I’ve had to adjust what I serve him and what I eat. Weekend breakfasts are often these vegan homemade waffles with lots of fruit that I make from oat flour. Oat flour that I grind myself!

I’m hoping when I have my checkup in a couple of weeks that the news will be good. Lots of walking and I’m keeping track on my Apple watch! This is NOT a day…it’s a week.

So that’s it for today, but I promised you a GIVEAWAY and here it is!

One thing that I wanted to say first is that I do get complaints every so often about the ads. Trust me I KNOW that advertising can be so annoying, but it’s everywhere and a fact of modern day internet life. I could not take the time to create all of the FREE CONTENT here without making some sort of income. It’s a full time job and ads are what pay the bills. It costs money to run a blog with hosting fees and so much more, so these ads really help offset the costs. Thank you for understanding and if you ever see anything truly “off base” in the ads, please let me know so that I can tell my ad management company AdThrive.

I’m giving away TWO $50 GIFT CARD to AMAZON to you…even though it’s my birthday! I truly appreciate you being here and reading my blog.

TO ENTER:

  1. Leave a comment below and let me know if you’re interested in the lifestyle/recipes, etc or would strictly prefer decor articles.
  2. Subscribe to the blog if you haven’t yet. I’ll be checking 😉

I’ll draw two winners at random and will announce the winner next week on another special post that I think you’ll love! Happy weekend all, from the beach!

CONGRATS TO THE 2 WINNERS (Catherine & Mary) WHO HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED VIA EMAIL!

  55. Happy Birthday! Hopefully, it was a spring- like day where you are; it was here. I especially enjoy your decor photos and ideas as they are “doable”. Your health/vegan lifestyle is admirable. Good Luck!

  56. Nancy Walden says:

I lost at least 15 pounds since Jan 12. Unfortunately the weight loss came from Covid and pneumonia! I was in the hospital and a skilled nursing facility for a month. I spent my 76 birthday with the nursing staff and staff the highlight of my day was sitting outside in the sun for 10 minutes! I am now at my daughters house continuing to build my strength up. I hope to be strong enough to go home (I love alone) by the time my remodeled bathroom is
finished. My youngest son hired a contractor and he and his wife shopped for new bathroom fixtures. I
like the pictures but I won’t see them in person till everything is finished. He brought me tile samples and I’m thrilled with marble-look porcelain tiles combined with subway tiles. I still have to decide on the paint color. I really enjoy decorating posts. I have multiple food allergies (gluten,
    Dairy, eggs, oats, corn, apples,
And some others) so my diet is
    somewhat limited. Thank you for
    The continued inspiration!

  57. Happy Birthday!!! Nice to spend it at the beach!! I like the decorating parts most but will take it all!! Great blog and thanks for sharing!!

  76. Kimberly Absher says:

I’ve gone vegan before and felt wonderful and then fell off that wagon. I’ve got to stay away from gluten. I’m not celiac but with Hashimoto’s, it makes you sensitive going off dairy is huge! Stay away from statins, they’re bad news. I don’t have a cholesterol
Issue, but know they’re bad. Wishing y’all the best. Happy Birthday 🎉 and thank you for your generosity.

  77. Karrie Marino says:

🎈HAPPY BIRTHDAY‼️ I love your bunny Mars!! We have a rescue bunny named Mabel (she is 2 1/2) she loves to cuddle. I’m having issues with her & the litter box lately. I have been meat free since 1993 and I would LOVE to get new recipes and read about your lifestyle changes. I was so touched when I read you guys love animals and didn’t want to include them in our meals any longer. Me & my kids are huge animal lovers. Our animals (2 pitbulls, 2 brother cats & a bunny) are all rescues.
I truly love your design style. Thank you have a wonderful beach 🏝birthday🥳

  78. Carolyn Carr says:

I love your bunny! So sweet. And my guess is the wood table for the foyer and you are probably going to add gold to the rod iron base???? I would love to see your lifestyle and recipes added. I need to lower cholesterol too and keep trying new plant based recipes. It’s not easy to switch. I thought I walked a lot with about 12-14 miles per week but I guess not after seeing the stats On Your watch! Have to up my game a little. Lol

  80. Happy Birthday! I would love reading more lifestyle posts but love the decor posts too. You can’t go wrong with me… I love it all!

You’re very brave to go completely vegan. During the pandemic, I started walking & eating much healthier & was able to lose 20 lbs. I hope that you’re able to get your health issues under control. I’m finding that the older I get, the harder it is to lose weight (I’m almost 71), but I do live alone, so I have much more control over my diet.
I’m only interested in the decor information & the printables, which I love & enjoy so much!

  82. I love your decorating posts and love your decorating style. I’m hoping I’m eligible for the draw as I live in Canada.

Happy Birthday Janet! I really do enjoy your blog and over the years have gotten many ideas from you that I have used in my own home. I am thrilled to hear that you have gone vegan. My husband and I and our 2 kids are vegetarian but haven’t yet gone vegan. I really want to but need recipes and some inspiration. That’s why I am so excited to learn that you have gone vegan and hopefully will be willing to share more easy recipes. 98. Have a lovely birthday! And yes, I’d enjoy the recipe posts, we do a lot of vegan dinners.

  99. Deb Klekowski says:

Happy Birthday, Janet!!! Wishing you much happiness and many blessings always!!! Good luck with the new vegan way of eating . . . it takes a lot of courage to make such a huge change, but as they say . . . baby steps . . . and success will follow. As far as the tables for the foyer, I am thinking you will choose the blue raffia table – – a beautiful beachy blue hue that will not only bring color to that area, but also reflect the textures of where your beach home is located. I can picture your peonies displayed so beautifully on that table, surrounded by a large seashell or two, and possibly a small round shallow decorative basket. Maybe you could change the handle on the bottom drawer of that table to a “gold” vintage handle, Whichever one you choose, I am confident it will look beautiful in the space.

  100. Deanne M Helgesen says:

I would love to see blog posts about all things that encompass “lifestyle”.

Happy birthday to you….. and many more!

  101. Back last May I also changed my eating habits and made a lifestyle change. I didn’t go totally vegan or vegetarian. But I eat a lot more greens and limit my protein to 6-7 Oz. I’m down 60 lbs. and have 20 more to go. But the change actually changed my health. I no longer have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I have more energy and finally feel good about myself and how I look. The real kicker ofcourse was the weight loss for me since I’ve struggled with it all my life. I love the recipes it’s taught me. So I can eat food that is good for me but also tastes good so I don’t feel deprived.
I would love to see some recipes on here with your health journey!
One of my favorites to meals now is spaghetti squash with a low sugar Alfredo sauce and chicken, topped with low calorie cheese. Vegan you can just take away the chicken. But it’s really good!

  102. Janet, hoping you have a lovely birthday! I love the lifestyle decorating ideas…..love your taste! But I, too, have been doing a mostly plant based diet and have lost 30 lbs. My #s have improved significantly so keep it up. I’m sure you will see a difference soon. I love both the decorating ideas and the food/recipe ideas. Thank you for your hard work.

Happy Birthday. I enjoy your blocks. As to your “numbers” one doctor recommended a low carb diet to my husband. His numbers dropped 15 points within the 1st month. You may want to read about carbohydrates and how they affect cholesterol. In the mid 1980’s mother-in-law cut all saturated fat out of her diet and only ate monostatured and polysaturated fats and could not get her numbers to budge. She tried low carb and it helped her also. Just something to look in to. Good luck. I am trying low carb, low fat, clean eating to get all my numbers in order.

  104. Happy Birthday Janet

Happy Birthday Janet! 🎉 It is very kind of you to do a giveaway in honor of your birthday. I always enjoy your posts. My husband & I recently purchased a home at the beach as well. I enjoy reading how you are doing a makeover to your own beach house & you have given me some great inspiration that I can use. I would love to see more ideas on the blog about decorating ideas & food. Good luck on your vegan lifestyle in improving your family’s health.

  106. Happy Birthday! I’d love some recipes! Thanks

  107. Happiest of Birthdays Janet! Even though I am not vegetarian or vegan, I wouldn’t mind seeing some recipes every once in a while. We have plenty of meatless meals and it is always fun to mix menus up a bit. God bless!!!

  108. Like the life style into too! I’m trying hard to walk and count calories.

  109. Happy Birthday! 🤞 for the gift cards! Thanks for the giveaway. I love your posts on home decor and ideas.

  110. Susan Kersbergen says:

    Susan

  111. Donna Marie says:

Happy, Happy Birthday!!! and many more!!! I don’t have the energy to have two homes. My husband and I raise black angus beef cattle, so that’s where I’m at too. They provide us we a meager income and we get by. It is much better beef than what you get in the grocery. That’s my story.

  112. Betsy Rivait says:

Happy Birthday!🎈🎈🌻🎉 I love your decorating posts but would also like some health posts too! Thanks for your daily inspiration.

  113. Happy Birthday! 🙂 I enjoy the home decorating posts. 🙂

  114. Happy B-Day Janet 🎂🎇
Love your blog.. I don’t know how you do it (so much work)..but just keep doing you.. I always look forward to receiving your blog.. thanks

  115. Congratulations on both your weight loss and your birthday. I’ve struggled all my life and the pandemic has only made it worse for me. I find so,ace in both cooking and eating, such a bad combination when stuck at home.
I see your blog all the time in Country French Fridays and enjoy your style. It has been a real treat to communicate with you and the others on your Facebook page. Such fun.

  116. Catherine ten Hertog says:

Hi Janet. Wishing you a very happy birthday. I love your blog. I love the wooden foyer table with the hairpin legs. So charming. I do love all your decorating posts but am interested in your vegan lifestyle. I have Hashimoto’s and it is often recommended to be grain, sugar and dairy free. I love animals as well.and am not interested in eating them either. Have a wonderful.day!

  117. Maureen A Hearne says:

Happy birthday – I’m interested in it all, decorating and any new recipes that you can share.

  118. Well, first things first! Happiest of birthdays to you! … and many, many happy returns of the day!

Though I know that you have a preference for the more refined, feminine side of decor, I think you chose the rough hewn timber and wrought iron legs console table. I think it seems to be more versatile for your many changes of mood; not to mention, it will fit in perfectly with your French country style!

Actually, I like all your articles – I am more INTERESTED in the decor articles, but that doesn’t mean that I like the lifestyle posts any less. I’ll always be a fan!

  119. Jill E Jaynes says:

Best wishes for a wonderful birthday!!! I hope you feel celebrated! I love EVERYTHING about your blog…..particularly the decor and styling, but enjoy very much the recipes and lifestyle information….I also love the connection you make for us to other bloggers who have similar style to you. Shabbyfufu is me to a “t” and I so appreciate you sharing your beautiful ideas with us!

    Happy Birthday!

  120. Hi Janet,
Happy Birthday, I am on a shoe string budget due to disability and I sew toys for disadvantaged kids. This is my passion and I have used loads of your tips on home improvement and cooking great tasty recipes from your blog.
I’m so glad I found your site, thank you for all your inspiration.
I live in the UK and find a lot of the US blogs are so interesting and useful.
Again Happy Birthday, have a wonderful day and keep up the good work.

    Many thanks Karen x

  121. Wishing you a wonderful Birthday! Hope you can squeeze in lots of beach time on this trip.

I’ve been looking at that blue console too. Hope that is the one you choose since I think it would be great in your foyer. Have a great trip.

  122. Happy Birthday Janet! I check daily for your decor inspirational posts. An added bonus has been your journey of healthy choices and supplements. I remember specifically your recommendation on collagen. We have been adding that to our coffee everyday ever since. Continued Blessings to you and your family.

  123. Happy Birthday! I enjoy your decor blogs and I would enjoy lifestyle/recipes as well. Thank you!

  124. I just noticed that your emails come to my other email. I will correct on this message. My choice is to try and incorporate both your decor knowledge and diet and lifestyle on your blog. Whatever you choose ill be good with – its part of my morning routine.

  125. Happy birthday Janet! May all your dreams come true!
I’d love to read vegan recipes and healthy life style tips. I’d love to know how you cook the waffles in the photo above!

  126. Patsy s Worley says:

Happy birthday 🎂, love your style

  127. I enjoy the lifestyle/recipe posts along with decor articles, but especially great recipes. Happy Birthday!

  128. First off- I think you picked Table #2- It looks more ‘beachy’ to me. Both are great choices though.

Congrats on going vegan. I am headed that way. In August I gave up all white flour and sugar and the weight is coming off slowly but surely. About 30# so far and I would like to lose 15 more.
I have a grandgirl that is totally vegan and so healthy and happy with her choice to follow that path.

As you know, I have subscribed for a long time to your site so throw my name into the proverbial ‘hat’ for the Amazon card. I have a new puppy so lots to buy for him and Amazon knows me by name. lol. Thanks for he chance.

Have a great day, Janet. xo Diana

  129. Happy Birthday! A couple years ago, I did something similar. I lost 40 pounds. I felt so much better. I would love to know the name of the pancake recipe you have posted in today’s posting. It looks delicious.
Is seems many of your readers have a colorful quilt pattern for their profile picture. It there a significance to this? I really like it.
I hope your day was the best and I love your blog postings.

  130. I admire your commitment to your health and going vegan, but I am really only interested in the decorating, French country style posts. That’s what I come here for. Thanks!

  131. Lynn Merrell says:

Happy happy birthday Janet!!! Hope you have an amazing, relaxing trip. I hope you picked the blue table and painted that drawer pull gold!!! It would look fabulous that way. Maybe a gold framed mirror above it? You know I love your blog and all your post. Keep it up!!! Would miss you if you didn’t.

  132. Happy Birthday! Hope you feel better soon. You asked for opinions. I’d prefer if you concentrated on posts about decor. I really need help in that area & want to learn more how to put things together to get a cohesive, artistic look. There are so many other sources for recipes, etc. Stick to what you do best! Good luck!

  133. Ellen Gould says:

Happy birthday! I think I have gained those 15 pounds you lost. Congratulations on your lifestyle change. I would be interested in seeing your vegan recipes. I enjoy reading your posts every day, your house is beautiful!

  134. I am all about the decor please.

    Sylvia

  135. Happy Birthday! I’d love a mix of posts…healthy lifestyle and decorating ideas! I need to get back on the “wagon”….I ate Vegan for about 8 months but fell off because of cheese! Oh so hard for me to give that up!

  136. Happy birthday I would love to see diet/lifestyle content along with the decorating. I love your blog. I just signed up for it about 2 months ago and little by little I am going back and reading everything you’ve posted. The ads are not a problem, a girls gotta make some $$.

  137. Sending happy birthday wishes to you; hope you are doing something special when at the beach to celebrate. I would not change anything about the content of your blog and love lifestyle, food, AND decor and I would not change a thing! Thanks so much for this opportunity, Janet!!

  138. Happy birthday, Janet!
I hope your vegan lifestyle change has helped your health! I love both the decor and lifestyle—especially the recipes. My favorite has been your Cashew cream stuffs tomatoes! My bachelor son loved them even though he looked a bit skeptical at first!
Enjoy your birthday and thank you for all of your inspirations!! ❤️

  139. Kathy Conley says:

    First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!🎉🎁🎂🎈
I’m going to guess , based on your hint, that your going to go for the live edge table, those hair pin legs would look fabulous painted gold and the wood is perfectly beachy.
As for the content, I’m definitely more interested in decorating but a little lifestyle is ok. Regardless of what you choose to do , I’ll still be reading your post and newsletters .
PS. I like your ads too

  140. I love all of your articles, especially of your beach home as I also live in Florida. Happy Birthday!! Can’t wait to hear about how well you are doing on the new vegan lifestyle.

  141. Happy Birthday! I hope your day is filled with joy. I just love everything that you post. It is always so much fun to read and I always look forward to it.

  142. Happy birthday!
I love the decorating blogs obviously and I also would enjoy the lifestyle and recipes!

  143. Betty Bashaw says:

I love your blog! My husband and I are also vegetarian. We have reduced our dairy greatly, tough we are not yet vegan. I admire and respect you and your hubby for making this change. It takes a lot of time and dedication to make these lifestyle changes. Please keep the lifestyle focus of your blog. I believe it complements and enhances the decor / style part of your life. Besides, I love catching a few new recipies from you. 🙂 Happy Birthday!

  144. Laurie LeBlanc says:

    Dear Janet,
I look forward to reading your message every morning. The beauty of your photographs, your ideas and (yes) even your advertising gives me so many ideas! Keep up the good work!

  145. Happy Birthday Janet! Love 💕 all the articles!

  146. 🎈🎉🎈Happy Birthday to you!!! 🎈🎉🎈Have a wonderful day and a wonderful weekend at the beach! I hope that your numbers are down at your appointment… I feel like I would be more interested in the decor posts but there is nothing wrong with changing it up, especially if you can help or inspire someone else!

  147. I like everything about your blog. We have a beach place & enjoy seeing what you do to yours. Happy Birthday! Hope your day is filled with joy!

  148. Clare Godleski says:

Hope you are feeling well. I like all of the posts- lifestyle/recipes and decor. A little mixture is enjoyable. Thanks for your hard work with your blog. I enjoy it!

  149. Birthday Blessings Janet! I truly enjoy your blog. You have given me so many ideas. I enjoy your decorating ideas, but I would love to hear about your health too. I lost my Mother and aunt to breast cancer. Recently found out I have the gene. I am in a very high risk to get it. Going to have a double mastectomy soon. Women’s health is important and encouraging. Thanks for all of your hard work. God bless you and your family!

  150. Good that you are working to be healthy. I have been intermittent fasting for about three years and boy is it easy. I quit chocolate about 35 years ago and donut, cookies, pies and cakes about three years ago and boy was it easy. It’s all about what is in your mind. I stop eating at 6 pm and usually will have breakfast around 10-11 am, but later if I’m busy. That has worked out easier than I thought and have lost weight.. My missing component is exercise and that’s next, pilates, zumba, movement of some sort and a little weight training. I’ve lost weight, but more importantly, I feel sooo healthy and in control. It looks like not enough calories in your diet. I also joined a cooperative and receive a supply of fresh veggies and microgreens weekly. What a treat! Happy, happy birthday and here’s to a healthy report at the doctors!!!!

  151. Ashleigh Hall says:

Hi Janet! I would love to hear more about your healthy eating journey! Look forward to seeing your posts in my inbox! Have a blessed day!

  152. Sorry, I forgot. I just LOVE your decor ideas and your blog is so clean looking and refreshing to read. I’m not interested in cooking, but could decorate all day. I love your decor style.

  153. Wishing you the Happiest of Birthdays, Janet. Love your Blog as it is!

  154. Beth Allgood says:

Happy birthday Janet! I love all your decorating ideas especially since we just bought a house in Myrtle Beach and are starting a renovation to give it more of a beach feel.

  155. Happy birthday! I love both, recipes and decorating posts! Enjoy your day🎉

  156. Happy Birthday!
While I love all things decor, I would love for you to share your “healthy” recipes like your oatmeal waffles. I subscribe to “clean eating” and am always looking for tasty recipes to add to my collection.

  157. Janice McFadden says:

Happy Birthday! Celebrate large girl – you deserve it!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your site and read each and every one of your emails! I’m a big fan, hubs not so much but we always find a middle ground to work in your ideas and suggestions. This is my happy place and brightens my morning!!!! Thank you!!

  158. Cindy M DeMay says:

Happy birthday Jan. I’ve been a subscriber of yours for years and look forward to your blogs. They’re informing and the pics are very inviting. I feel like your my long lost sister and we’re catching up. lol Anyways, I’m not a vegetarian, but I have included alot more fruits and veggies in my diet. I wouldn’t mind seeing some of your recipes. But your decor and DIY’s are what I crave. Thank you for the chance. <3 Cindy

  159. Lisa Turner says:

    Good Morning and Happy Birthday!

I am always interested in healthy food choices and would welcome them in your blog!

Congratulations on the 15 pound weight loss, it’s not easy at this age.

    Have a wonderful day!
    Lisa Turner

  160. Barbara Hale says:

Happy, Happy BDay, Yes, please include me on your recipe list, waffles look yummy. Good luck on your vegan journey. How long did it take you both to get used to the new regime? Did you have any cravings along the way?

I am so happy to continue our Shabbyfufu journey. I have been participating since the beginning and wow, how you have grown.

By the way, I suspect the you will pick the table with the pin legs, but who knows.
Have a super day, Barbi H

  161. Donna Whitley says:

Happy Birthday! We love the beach also. My daughter is a REALTOR on the OBX, so we get to visit as often as we can. I love the decor articles, especially before and after and DIY. The life style is interesting to me as well.

  162. Patrice Bates says:

Happy Happy Birthday!!! I love celebrating birthdays!!! Even more so when we’re older… a nice dinner with the people you love, just celebrating life!!! Have fun!!!! I’m a total shabby guy fu myself and Beloit or not my husband has fallen in love with pink( because when he sees it he thinks of me) I do love you sharing recipes!!! I’m trying the veggie lifestyle also, for that midsection tummy!!! Comes with age, but let’s fight it!!! Anyway I love all your deco and your style!! Happy Day!💕🎉🎂💐

  163. Donna Whitley says:

I forgot to add that I would choose the blue table. Although I do like the depth of the wood, I always worry about things that might appear trendy or out of style in a year or two.

  164. Happy B-Day!
I personally think the blue table.
It is different and will stand the test of time, although if space is an issue the other looks smaller and more open…tough choice.
I enjoy the decorating ideas more than more recipes.
Appreciate all that that lifestyle entails and it’s many benefits.
    Good luck to you both!

  165. Happy, happy birthday! Personally, I love your blog…both the decorating and personal post. The personal posts help me to relate more to you as a person so feel free to keep them coming. I too have struggled recently with high cholesterol. I’m curious to learn about your journey. Best wishes for today and always!

  166. Happy Birthday! I am here for the decor but don’t mind the other stuff 🙂 I can’t wait to see which console you chose!

  167. Hi Janet!
I am so honored to be a member of shabby FUFU, and so, I save each and every post. I have an entire library of your posts, articles, downloadable designs and project instructions, and beautiful makeover homes for the “tourist” in me. I love your pastels. I appreciate all of your exciting information about how to decorate and what to use. Thank you for an excellent ongoing experience!
    Fondly,
    Cathy

  168. I like all your posts. Hope the changes work and have a great birthday!

  169. Janet, happy, happy birthday! I enjoy both decorating and lifestyle /food blog posts. I would like to encourage you on your vegan journey. While I am not vegan, I am gluten-free and processed food-free for 12 years. I cook all of our meals from scratch. It has been quite the journey and so well worth it. Wishing you a day and year filled with happiness and love.

  170. Happy birthday and wishing you many more! I prefer the decor articles.

  171. Happy Birthday, Janet! I look forward to reading your blog each week! Love the Shabbyfufu style! I’d love to see some recipes and advice as I have also been on a healthy diet journey. Those waffles look amazing! I make a similar vegan pumpkin pancake!
Thanks for the joy you bring to so many! Sandy

  172. With the many responses today I’m not sure you’ll even make it to mine Janet. I guess that’s a good thing:0)…If you do..I prefer the decor only because life seems to deal such health issues I’d like to just forget at times although it can be helpful to read about others too, I agree. Your sweet rescue bunny is so fortunate to have a home with you. Too sweet! Love the chandelier and both tables so which ever you have chosen will be perfect. Wish you luck on your numbers! Greens, greens and more greens seems to help many. Less flour based meals but adding in good oils also has helped many of my friends. Best to you!!

  173. I would definitely be interested in the lifestyle posts. An d I already subscribe to your blog.

  174. Happy Birthday! I love your blog! It is my favorite! I would really enjoy a lifestyle/recipe article too.

  175. Happy birthday! I’m always interested in life style changes as well as your wonderful decorating information. Thank you!

  176. laura gal says:

Happy birthday, Janet! I love reading your daily blogs!

  177. Happy Birthday Janet! Enjoy your weekend at the beach… how lovely! You were one of the first bloggers I started following. Your ideas have been a wonderful inspiration to my love of home decor and design, so I just want to say a big thank you! Overall, I would be more interested in the design articles. Take care!

  178. Happy Birthday Janet! I enjoy reading your blog sharing decorating tips and wouldn’t mind reading about lifestyle topics as well.

  179. Happy birthday to you! I love all your decor ideas and inspiration! I have PTSD which makes it hard to get out. I look forward to your emails, you brighten my day! Also, I can’t wait to see the laundry room. My room is the same exact set up, white cabinets and all!
    Enjoy your special day!

  180. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to youuuuuuuuuuu,Happy Birthday to youuuuuu; Happy Birthday dear Janetttttt–Happy Birthday to youuuuuuu <-*internet singing* 🙂 I love ALL your Decor & home-makeover/styling posts! It's great that you talk about the importance of consuming a healthier diet, esp during Coronavirus when so many of us are taking to the kitchen to relieve our Isolation Blues. A fun fact for you (maybe not so fun, really, but…) Estrogen helps regulates cholesterol. Many menopausal/post-menopausal women find themselves dealing with hypercholesterolemia they never had prior to menopause; it's that loss of cholesterol-regulating Estrogen. Hence the Meno-Tummy you mentioned. (ret RN here, 31 yrs Critical Care Nursing, now an Artist.) Diet & exercise are the only true fixes for that, unless your Dr wants you to take a script for it but then you'd still hafta change eating/lifestyle habits. I love your Decor & Home-Styling posts; I'd prefer you continue to focus on those; the diet & lifestyle stuff we can easily get elsewhere, but for 'Janet Style', we can only get that here from you. ENJOY your Birthday! 🙂

  181. Deborah Dickens says:

  191. First I have to say I have never a seen a prettier laundry room. I love that you are using wallpaper. I had it all over my house when I moved in and removed every last piece. I painted everything over with neutral colors but when I see how pretty all of your rooms are I may change some of the rooms and add wallpaper.

I love the second option from Etsy of the table for your foyer.
I love to see content of all kinds. Recipes, decorating, etc. They all tie into homekeeping.

  192. Happy Birthday! Thx for the giveaway! I would be interested in healthy recipes, plz

  193. Kim Lennie says:

Happy Birthday Janet ! I love your decor styles the most . I’m personally not vegan but won’t mind a recipe or two to shake up the week.

  194. I love the blue raffia covered console, I hope you picked that one ~ I live in CA and always enjoy your decor, light and airy is how I like my house to feel also…
I too am vegetarian since 18 (66 now) so would definitely be interested in recipes. The oat waffles look delicious.
all the best with the beach/remodel dilemma! some of both is healthy

  195. Happy birthday! I love all of your blog posts but since I need the most help with decorating, I find them most valuable. I too have high cholesterol despite exercising daily, eating a gluten-free diet and maintaining a healthy weight. Because I already eat a relatively healthy diet, I’ve tried to eat more superfoods, hemp hearts, for example. I am due for blood work and am hopeful that my numbers have dropped. Good luck to you on that front! Love your bunny! We had two bunnies–all black like your Mars and a Havana dwarf. Our second passed away a year ago at age 11. Wishing Mars many more happy years!

  196. First, let me wish you a very Happy Birthday! It’s a beautiful almost-spring day where I live… I hope it is the same for you on your birthday! I really enjoy your blog posts, whether you are talking about home/decor or health or anything else! There is always learning and inspiration to be found!

  197. Jacquie Ellsmere says:

So many birthday wishes, even if I am not chosen I am just taking this opportunity to tell you that I visit your website almost daily and very much enjoy your decorating choices, I am sure they have influenced my choices since I have purchased items such as yours! Happiest of birthdays for you, may you continue work hard and live a joyful life! Yours in decorating, Jacquie

  198. Charlotte says:

Happy Birthday Janet!! Hope all your birthday wishes come true.
In answer to your question, I read decorating blogs so that would be my preference. I love to see how other people solve decor dilemmas and what they do to enhance their homes as that’s my passion too. Thanks for the offer to win a gift certificate!

  199. SARA E SHAW says:

Happy Birthday! Enjoy your decorating posts…but not adverse to a recipe or two…
    Pick the blue console!

  200. Angel. Gregory says:

Happy happy birthday to you. I want you to keep recipes and decorating in your blog. I am not talented at either and need all the help I can get! I get inspired and learn through others, guess that’s why I went into teaching 🙅🏻‍♀️

  201. Janet,
Best wishes and happy Birthday to you! I enjoy your blog and really tend to enjoy decorating and DIY, but also love a few recipes mingled in along with posts containing blessings and perspectives. Happy February and a better 2021!

  202. So, I’m new here (to your blog) although I’ve followed your Instagram for years. Hi! And Happy Birthday! I love the inclusion of lifestyle and recipe pieces. To me, it’s more like a magazine in that way and I prefer variety when I have time to peruse sites.

  203. Diane Pianfetti says:

Happy Birthday Janet!! I would love to see your vegan recipes!! Will look forward to seeing them!!

  204. CRYSTAL REPASS says:

Happiest Birthday! February is a great month for celebrations; my mom, brother and mother-in-law have birthdays this month too. In answer to your question regarding what I love to read the most on your site, it’s the decorating ideas! Love the chandeliers and all things “Romantic Homes” inspired. Thanks for all the fun ideas.

  205. I have been following you for quite some time now. The reason I started following you is because of your decorating skills. I never saw a post that I didn’t love.
So keep posting all your decorating skills. They never disappoint!

  206. Michele Ward says:

Hope you have a great Birthday! I enjoy all of your posts. I love decorating! I, too, am trying to be more healthy. So, I would enjoy those posts as well to help encourage all of us that are on that journey. Congrats on the weight loss too!!!!

  207. Melissa Crider says:

Happy birthday Janet!! I would love to see decor as well as lifestyle and recipes. I’m curious how the switch to vegan is affecting your numbers. Thanks for all you do!

  208. Happy, Happy Birthday!!
You are an inspiration in these dark days!!

  209. CAROLE PRIOR says:

Dramatic Greetings Janet..Ohh first HAPPPIEST of DAYS FILLED WITH THE WONDER of YOU…HAPPY BIRTHDAY…and I simply look so forward to SHABBYFUFU’s INSPIRATIONAL BLOG of the DAY…EVERY DAY… Your creative sparkle simple has helped my own decorating ideas develop and flourish as for some reason, your spaces and places simply sing out loud to me. I actually look forward to reading about both DECOR/RE-DECORATING and your new VEGAN approach to LIFE as I am tentatively making the switch…Though I have always relied on fresh veggies anyhow, never the less, it was always tucked beside a steak/chicken or Flounder. I also live on the beach here on Vilano in St. Augustine so adore your ‘suggestions for beach living…including my new white love seat from IKEA…and yes I also have a dog and grandlings (my adored grand children) and you are right, there are ways of keeping the whitest whites white.. I celebrate my GASP GASP=—=80th birthday last year..But I feel 60 so I stay and remain as active as possible and am also trying to lower my cholesterol . Let’s hope!! My own mother did after she began eating oatmeal daily, cutting out all triglycerides and VOILA…she did it… She lived to be over 99 and was amazing …her diet helped I’m sure. Keep being your wonderful self, your creatively inspired ideas keep the rest of us sane and Voila

    Thank you.

Happy birthday! 🎉🎂🎁🎊🎈 I too have a March birthday. Doesn’t seem to matter how old I get, I still like birthdays 🥳. I like hearing/reading about everything. I was a vegan for a few years but I couldn’t seem to get my protein in. I’m still
Get low on protein and I’m now eating meat. Yuck. Not much. I end up getting iron infusions about every 9 months. I love your articles and pictures. Btw, I believe that you are getting the blue table but are changing the silver to gold. Enjoy your birthday month and thank you for sharing.

  212. Happy Birthday! I think we are about the same age 🙂
Decor is always my favorite …. but … I do enjoy when bloggers share their journeys as well because it might just be something I am working on too. <3

  213. Margaret Walker says:

Happy Birthday Janet! You are soooooooooooooooo talented. Thank you for sharing all that talent. I appreciate the time and effort it takes. Your blog is so perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing.

  214. Happy Birthday Janet 💕. I absolutely love your blog for your design style. You have such a unique way of taking elements from the past and making them look new again. I look forward to your email every morning. It’s difficult living in Florida and feeling completely comfortable having a French Country Style instead of a Beach or Nautical Style, especially if you live on the water. I have my own unique style as well, so it was great to see another Floridian do the same. Thanks so much for being you and sharing your wealth of knowledge with us, it’s greatly appreciated. Enjoy your time at beach house.

  215. A bit late, but I hope you had a lovely b-day.

Coming to your webpage is like a everyday birthday for me! 🙂

  216. Mary Beth says:

Happy birthday 🎂 I have been thinking about going vegetarian myself because my cholesterol numbers are high. I’m going to start having meatless meals a few days a week. Love your Facebook posts. Take care 🙂

  217. Becky Rusk says:

Happy birthday Janet. I think that you should go with the second table. I love the rustic wood of its top. I love your decor content but would be happy if you wanted to add recipes and lifestyle posts to your blog. Your bunny is so cute. Have fun decorating your Beach house. I am jealous that you can go to your beach house already. It is still very snowy and cold here.

Happy Birthday Hunny Bunny! Going vegan? You’re a braver woman than I! I have that same unwelcome guest, Mid-life Jelly Belly. I call it a guest because it’s only supposed to be a temporary thing, but I fear it may be settling in for the long haul! I may follow your lead and try vegan but I’m afraid my fiancé’s love of everything meat might be a problem. So on second thought, I think I’ll just live vicariously through you! I’ll enjoy watching your progress on your blog along with whatever other content you decide to post. You’re awesome,Lady! Thanks for the great blog!

  219. Janet I hope you have a FABULOUS birthday! 🙂
As far as your posts and blog, I think you are doing a great job covering a little bit of everything for everyone. Variety is the spice of life…so they say. Keep it up. I love your beautiful photos. I am most definitely into the home decor aspect.
    Happy Birthday!

Happy, happy birthday!!!!! My Mom’s birthday is the 27th so you’re in good company! I would love to see some lifestyle/recipe posts. It would be a nice snapshot into your life and maybe give us some ideas on how to enjoy the beautiful homes you’ve helped us create!

  221. Happy Birthday Janet. I love learning about how other folks my age manage their health at this time in life. I had been doing great but lately I seem to have fallen off the wagon. I need help and some sort of motivation. Do you think it might be pandemic depression that has gripped us all?

  222. May you have the Happiest Birthday Janet, As for the 2 tables, I love the weathered oak with the hairpin legs The blue seems more formal. I love your crafty hacks and decorating ideas. An easy recipe would work too. Have a great trip.

  223. Happy birthday! Have a fabulous day.
I enjoy the life updates and recipes along with the decor pics and blog posts.

  224. Happy Birthday. I have followed you for awhile now (over a year or two) and don’t comment often, but would love to take part in the giveaway! I also do enjoy your decor blog posts plus lifestyles and health and eating habits. I was trying, before Covid hit, to get rid of all grains and sugar in my diet, but then when it hit, I just kind of threw that all to the wayside and told myself I should just eat whatever I wanted for awhile. That was dumb. Have now gained 10 lbs. of “covid weight” and going to be hard to get it off! I eat totally gluten free, but that does NOT take off any weight, as gluten free is just as high in carbs. I would think your new healthier way of eating would surely help you drop some weight and feel much better! Marilyn

Happy Birthday Janet! I prefer your decorating posts. I find plenty of foodie things in other places. I enjoy your decorating and deco advice and sources the most. Thanks!

  229. Happy Birthday Dear Janet! I love seeing your talent of decorating and the graciousness you inspire. And if course the food articles.

  230. Happy birthday Janet! 💥🎂
I actually like the blue table. However, it’s to bad that the wood table doesn’t have more shelves below it because it’s actually beachy. I probably should go vegan or something since my sugar levels recently went over 200 due to probably weight gain. It’s hard to get rid of sugar (sweet tooth). I love your decorating style and visiting other people’s homes via your website.
    Enjoy life!
    Susan

Belated Happy Birthday wishes! I am having one today. Its pretty low key but that isn’t a bad thing. Gives one time to pause and reflect.

Don’t drive yourself crazy with the diet route for cholesterol. I tried but finally gave in and my GP put me on a very, very low dose med. (She does not prescribe meds freely). My numbers dropped as if by magic and no side effects. You must not allow others make you feel like you have failed if the numbers just won’t come down. She explained that there are some genetic traits that just make it impossible to do it with diet. More important is to reduce the numbers and be healthy.
Have a great weekend and enjoy those new appliances! 😀
