Beach Days, Thrift Shopping, Fall Decorating Ideas & More! Morning Musings 16

Welcome to Morning Musings once again, a personal post that I share from time to time with a little bit of this and that! The format may change slightly, depending upon what I have to talk about. So grab a cup of coffee ☕️ and join me!

LET’S GET PERSONAL

Our vacations these last few years have definitely taken a closer nature, as opposed to past global travels abroad. We are grateful to have our place at the beach and are trying to spend as much time there as we can. The weather was perfect for the week with no rain, but as in most places it was VERY HOT! We spent lots of time in the ocean and even the walkout to the sand required sandals and no bare feet!

We moved a few things around and have a couple of upcoming projects that we hope to work on there over the cooler months! One of the minor projects that I did was to remove the acrylic protector from this artwork print. It just had too much of a glare with all of the sunlight pouring in and now…problem solved!

Since my daughters were with us for the week, we went thrifting! My daughter who lives in San Francisco works in a corporate environment and was looking for a fall wardrobe. She honed in on slacks and also found a cute pair of Italian patent leather shoes that will take her from office to dinner. We found a load of fabulous finds and I’ll share a couple of dressing room shots below!

I (on the other hand) don’t generally look at thrifted clothing, so I zoned in on the home sections of the thrift stores. I found this very large antique olive oil jug that had damage, so was just $16. I’ve seen similar in better shape for hundreds, so this was quite a nice score! I’m going to use it for dried flowers this fall and will share when it’s been styled.

We popped into a favorite consignment shop in our thrifting travels one day to find this. I’ve been on the hunt for an ottoman for my home office (see more HERE) and spied this piece. My daughter noticed that it had a lid that lifts for storage and that sealed the deal for me! It’s pictured in the living room at the moment, but will move into the office/guest room shortly. The bullion fringe is just darling and hides the legs!

WHAT I’M LOVING IN DECOR

Since I’ve just gotten home to our Miami place I’m playing catch-up with cleaning and laundry. This weekend out will come the bins of fall decor which are mainly velvet pumpkins and dried florals! My velvet pumpkin collection is quite large and they come from Hot Skwash. You can find lots of others on Etsy, but Hot Skwash are the best and the originals! Find them HERE and if you’re doing any other shopping there is a nice discount code to utilize! For some fabulous affordable fall decor, head on over to my AMAZON FALL SHOP HERE. I’m pretty well set with fall decor now after shopping Amazon, but just ordered THIS LARGE WHITE FALL WREATH and a few small things. I update the Amazon Storefront daily…always lots to see! Some of last week’s top sellers are: these swivel bar stools in a modern French style, this set of 2 velvet pillow covers (I have these in many colors over here!), this large white wood round tray and this gorgeous affordable washable rug with a vintage look!
Since we are getting ready to completely renovate our dated kitchen, I’m looking at these barstools. What do you think?

School has finally started in most parts of the country and the students are back at their desks! By the way, if you don’t have a standing desk, then you’re missing out on a chance to and close those rings on your Apple Watch! My daughter loves her FLEXISPOT Adjustable Desk and it’s a nice compact size for her home office. It adjusts electronically so that you can sit as well as stand. Great for those of us who work at home and for those college students too!

WHAT I’M WEARING

It’s hot, so I’m still in summer clothing down here in Florida. That being said, I’m hopeful that it will cool off next month 🙏🏻  I have been adding a ton of affordable and very chic pieces to my AMAZON FASHION PAGE and you all have been loving it. Best sellers are this cotton/linen tunic top, this oversized tee, this 2-pack of pajamas and this classy 3-piece purse set that’s now 1/2 off (I have this set!).

WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING

I’ve been getting caught up on The Handmade’s Tale, which is so intense (A woman forced into sexual servitude struggles to survive in a terrifying, totalitarian society) that I’ve had to take breaks! Still, I do highly recommend it but watch the trailer first. Alternately I just finished up something much lighter in vain with Mr. Selfridge on PBS Masterpiece Theater via Amazon Prime Paid Video. My reads have been at the beach, so consist of lots of Elin Hilderbrand, Rachel Hanna and the like.

  1. A most enjoyable post Janet.
I too watched the Handmaid’s Tale and found it terrifying and brilliant at the same time. Also Mr Selfridge was very enjoyable. It was scorching weather in the UK (almost like Florida) for a bit and my garden suffered, but now it is raining and the plants are recovering. LOL I don’t think we’re ever happy with what weather we get here.

    1. Glad to know that you enjoyed this Annie! We are used to scorching summers here in FL but Europe has really been suffering in what appears to be the new normal with climate change. Stay cool!

  2. Glad you enjoyed your summer Janet. We keep going back and forth on where would our summer home be and where would be best. I’m not a fan of the humidity at all. The PNW and NE have changed climates over the years as well as Europe. I’m afraid we will buy and then not like where we landed. If I keep waiting too much longer it will be too late! Argh!
I wish we had some cool thrift shops here to shop at. Love the stool!
The Handmaids Tale..another I will have to write down on my list. I’m just getting hubby to realize that what we pay for isn’t working for me outside of the internet speed is great…Netflix/Hulu is much needed:0) I’ve heard Virgin River is great. That guy is just so cute!!
    Happy Fall!

    1. I know just what you mean Lori. We keep thinking of selling our home, but where to go? Yes, streaming services are great and I rarely watch the actual TV anymore.

    2. Hi Lori! There are sooooo many people moving to Florida these days and I have to wonder if they realize that it’s humid year round here! Climate change is just making it hotter and we have had much less rain then normal this summer. Virgin River is such a sweet way to pass some time relaxing. Enjoy your week…xo

  3. I’m loving your fashion page and always your decor!!
    Thank you for sharing!
