Meet Angelique…a talented interior decorator with an interesting story to tell. These stories of our lives are what makes our homes unique to us and this one is no exception! I’m going to let Angelique take it away with her narration, but before I do…head over and follow her on Instagram at Design By Angelique. She’s delightful!

“I have lived in this house for the past five years. My husband (at the time) and I purchased this suburban fixer upper. Quite a lot has changed in the last five years. Newly divorced, I’ve still maintained a good friendship with my ex and his family. I have no regrets. Life doesn’t asked us what we want but it does give us lessons and beautiful memories along the way. I’m currently living by myself with my dog Rudy.”

“My extended family now lives in Queens, NY, but I was born and raised in Guyana, South America. I grew up on a beautiful farm in the countryside.”

“Some of my fondest memories are waking up to all the beautiful animals and chickens and ducks, the horses, the goats and sheep. My very first pet was a baby lamb that her mother abandoned. I picked her up and brought her in the house and fed her with a baby bottle. We were inseparable after that!”

“One of the reasons I’m so fond of my home is because it’s in the country and the neighborhood is so beautiful serene and quiet. Everyone thinks I’m a city girl when they look at me and when I tell them I lived on a farm I get the look of shock. Lol. My heart will always be in the country.”

“I worked in NYC for 17 yrs and it was beautiful and a special place to go out to dinner and have fun. However, I couldn’t wait to get home to the peace and quiet of this home!”

“I have associate degree in fashion design but enjoy interior design and decorating more. Following my passion, I started my own business 3 years ago designing and decorating homes. My home is in Amityville Long Island, NY. Yes the same Amityville as in the Amityville horror movies” 😱

This suburban fixer upper is set on half an acre and is a single family house with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and built in 1952.

“When we were looking to move from our previous home I came to an open house in the neighborhood. The listing photos looked very different and I did not like that house at all!  Upon leaving my friend and I got lost in the village and stumbled upon my house now. The open house sign was up and I said I want to take a look.”

Angelique saw what this house could become and below are a couple of images taken BEFORE RENOVATION!

“Upon entering the agent told us that the open house was closed and the owners were on their way back. My friend said in a whisper it’s for the best this is so small and needs a lot of work. I walked into the kitchen and said this is home! My friend’s face was priceless! I saw the potential and what I could do with a few walls being knocked down. The open concept was something I saw right away and the backyard was so green I just knew it was my home. I felt the feeling of home just being here after 2 minutes. I’ve always said this house choose me not the other way!”

“The kitchen was so tiny and they was no formal dining room. I converted the garage in a dining room and made a laundry room as well. We extended the kitchen where the seating nook was and did an open flow concept into the dining room.”

“The living room was still in its original state with the original paneling and fireplace. I wanted to maintained the original fireplace so I just did minimal changes like a fresh coat of paint and changed the bright to tiles.” Simple, cozy and charming!

“This suburban fixer upper is still a work in progress but that’s what I love most about fixer uppers. The bathrooms need work and more touches.”

“My favorite room makeover is the dining room. I love the open feel and the views from the windows. It’s the brightest room in the house and I try to design/maintain it as an extension of the outdoor patio.”

“I love that the fire pit and seating is right outside the French doors. I love to sit in here during the winter months especially when it’s snowing. It’s also my favorite room to sit and listen to the beautiful sounds of nature while having my coffee.”

So sweet! I just adore her pastel pumpkins of all textures! I’ve looked everywhere for pumpkins like those and find some every so often. I’ve got gobs of white, but I love her pastels. And the mirrored one with the pearl top is fantastic!
