In this tutorial, will teach you how to make hand-painted ribbons with a lovely watercolor effect using a few simple techniques.

The ribbon pictured is silk and it’s vintage (no suprises there!) but you can use raw or undyed new silk ribbon. There's a plethora of options online!

Gather your supplies while your ribbon is drying off a bit.  You don’t want it soaking wet, you want to paint the ribbon while damp.

For a lighter hue, first wet your ribbon and paint while damp. But, if you prefer stronger color, paint when dry!

PRO TIP

Take a shallow pan or plastic cup and fill it with water.  Next, add a couple of drops of dye. Try not to add too much at once!

With your damp ribbon, dip your brush into the watered down dye and paint on one end of the ribbon as shown.
