Baking Bread, Best Amazon Kitchen Finds, & More!

Welcome to Morning Musings once again, a personal post that I share from time to time with a little bit of this and that! The format may change slightly, depending upon what I have to talk about. So grab a cup of coffee ☕️ and join me!

LET’S GET PERSONAL

If you’ve been with me for awhile then you might know that I decided to embark on a plant based diet several years ago. When the pandemic began I had more time to cook and explore new recipes from various online sources. I also started coughing a lot and having sinus and allergy problems. I never connected the two: spicy food/cough and was eating about as healthy as you can! I began to explore why I was having this constant issue. Nothing was conclusive from the allergist and ENT. My primary doctor suggested that I might have silent reflux but didn’t offer any advice. So I started researching on my own. This is something that most doctors (at least locally) don’t seem to know much about, and I came across this book about chronic cough from “silent reflux” and the Acid Watcher Diet book that really opened my eyes to this issue and the lack of knowledge about it! I never suspected this, because I’m healthy and don’t have traditional acid reflux at all! Anyway, I wanted you to know in case you’ve been coughing. I’m on a low acid (ph neutral) food choice plan now and sleeping on this wedge pillow and am starting to feel better indeed. Some of my favorite foods and beverages had to be cut out, at least for now.
I don’t ever want to make my blog “the ailment hour” 🤣 but I felt that if this could even help one of you then I’m doing something good by opening up here.

WHAT I’M LOVING/SHOPPING

Since many of you do shop Amazon, I’m not sure if you’re aware but it’s Amazon Prime Early Access Day with 2 days of big deals for Prime members! Personally I’m not doing much holiday shopping now but I am always searching for the best prices on things that I need around here! Amazon is my top go-to source for that and I rely on Prime for even my grocery delivery these days (did you know they do that?).

I’m starting to gather things for our upcoming kitchen renovation and am in definite need of new pots and pans. This Calphalon 10 piece set is in my cart at $100 off for the sale. As most of you, I still like quality but enjoy a savings! While the kitchen remodel will be in progress I’m planning on setting up a temporary kitchen in the laundry room. We have enough counter space to share there and it’s close to the kitchen, so hopefully that will work out. I’m going to need a few counter appliances to get me through and just purchased this Toshiba countertop microwave at a $30 off savings. With over 47K reviews it’s a popular one!

Hamilton Beach Food Processor Shabbyfufu

Do you need a new food processor? This Hamilton Beach food processor is under $40 with a huge savings and it’s the one that I have and use several times a week! What I like most about it is the scaper, which keeps me from having to open the lid to scrape the sides.

A few of other sale items that I own and can recommend are this Levoit air purifier and the Bissell Crosswave wet/dry vacuum mop combo (great for pet owners) and finally the Amazon Basics covered enamel cast iron Dutch oven (just as good as the French brand) on sale too.
Check out my Amazon shop here, I work hard on it and update it daily with new finds!

Here are some more great deals on Amazon that I found and I have them in my own kitchen:
Kitchenaid Mini Stand Mixer – the same one as I have above, which is a nice compact size. I love mine for all of my baking!
Pyrex Simply Store 18-Pc Glass Food Storage Containers Set – The containers that I’ve used for years for storage.
Vitamix Professional Series 750 Blender – I use mine daily for salad dressings, soups, sauces. A must have appliance here!
Ninja AG301 Foodi 5-in-1 Indoor Grill with Air Fry, Roast, Bake & Dehydrate – I’m not one to grill outside and this is my inside grill.

My dining room chairs (very similar) are on sale at only $100 each, which is way less than I paid for mine! Find them here.

Speaking of the kitchen (where I spend a ton of time!) I ordered these barstools (counter stool height) for the island. I’ve had my eyes on these forever it seems and was able to snag them on the big clearance sale! While I would have preferred the blue I can always spray paint them and plan on recovering the seats. Ballard Designs is a place that I’ve shopped for many years and the quality and style aesthetic is just wonderful! For $50 off any purchase use my code by clicking here.

WHAT I’M COOKING

I’ve had to eliminate possible triggers like garlic, onions etc…so I’m experimenting and can share more if you’re interested later. This easy no knead whole wheat bread just came out of the oven and here’s the recipe. It’s tasty and you can customize with other flours as desired.

WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING

Over the weekend I watched Mrs. Harris goes to Paris (rent it on Amazon here). My impressions were that it was cute and sweet and easy to watch. Nothing dramatic and sometimes you just need to tune into that feeling! I just received this book today and haven’t had a chance to pour through it. Veranda, At Home In The South is filled with stunning interior design and swoon worthy homes! If you enjoy interiors as I do, you’ll definitely want to pick it up (here)!

  1. Such great finds Janet! And I love seeing your puppies! They don’t really look too sure about the vacuum, but I bet it gets a lot of use. So glad you’re feeling better! Thanks for sharing – that’s something I’ve never heard of. Good to know! Take care and hope you’re having a good week!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Barb and I vacuum almost daily, so they are used to it, lol! Feeling much better and the old adage of “you are what you eat” really rings true. xo

  2. Susan Krauss says:

I’m so glad that you’ve potentially found a food plan that will make you feel better!

    1. Thank you Susan…have to stick with this but seeing improvements makes it worth doing. xo

  3. Thanks for bring this book on acid reflux to my attention Janet! I am a long time sufferer (and my own worst enemy when it comes to food)! I am also plant based and I am wondering before I buy it, whether or not it is plant based or at least a large number of recipes that will appeal to the plant based lifestyle?

    1. Maureen, I highly recommend that book and in just the few weeks that I’ve been following this lifestyle I feel so much better! It’s not a cookbook per se, but does have recipes along with how to heal advice that is practical. I have the cookbook as well, which does have a lot of plant based recipes. https://amzn.to/3T8aA7o

Did you decide to take some time off from your blog? Haven’t received one in over a week. Just wondering. Thanks

    1. Hi DalaAnn! No I didn’t and post quite often. I noticed in the email list that you are receiving the emails, so maybe check in your spam folder since they haven’t been opened. Let me know if you find them there! xo

  5. Mary Anne Russo says:

What a great post! I think I may have silent acid reflux! My doctor has thought so as well but hasn’t really given me any ideas on what I should do… except take meds. I’m going to order this book and I cook with a lot of garlic and onions! I’am so happy I’ve read this post!!!!! Also we are planning a small kitchen update and never thought of using my laundry room! This will be perfect!
Thanks for all of the wonderful ideas!!!!!

    1. I’m so happy to help Mary Anne and I must say that I feel 95% better since starting this way of eating about 6 weeks ago now! Oh and my kitchen demo starts tomorrow morning, so stay tuned for that!
