Stylish Powder Room Renovation Modern Coastal

In this post I’m sharing the before and after of our stylish powder room renovation that I deem a success! With it’s modern coastal design it fits right into the updates in our beach home. I find it so satisfying to take a builder grade room and give it a whole new look, always keeping the budget in mind! Let’s take a look at the before, after, sources and some of what inspired me along the way!

As I mentioned in THIS recent post, we were remodeling all 3 bathrooms at the same time. It’s less expensive to get the work done that way in getting plumbers, electricians and tile contractors in. Here’s a little look at all 3 together, so you can see how they coordinate. Since this is a beach home, my goal was a more modern coastal design.

And below is the before (bleck!) which we lived with for 16 years before creating our stylish powder room renovation. Our second home always has more budget constraints and instead of traveling this year we spent the money here.

That being said, we hope to work on updating the flooring perhaps late this year. We would use LVP and lay it right over the builder grade tile. Everything in this room was builder grade, except for the accessories. So what did we do?

Stylish Powder Room Renovation

  • Installed white beadboard on the half wall behind where the new cabinet would sit. My husband DIY’d it to save money.
  • Took out the pedestal sink and replaced it with a free standing cabinet with a marble top and gold plumbing fixtures. I’ll link it below.
  • Rewired electrical boxes and added new stylish elongated gold sconces
  •  Added an antique French mirror over the sink that I found on sale at an antique store that was closing.
  • Replaced the toilet with a new comfort height style toilet.
  • Painted the room with a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore White Dove (Aura) in a flat finish.
  • A few fresh accessories have been added to the sink area and will be linked below.

While the stylish powder room renovation is mostly finished, there are some things that I’m still thinking about.

  1. Possibly wallpapering the room, or at least the back wall. Do you think it would look too busy?
  2. New flooring, but that will have to wait because I want to do the whole home.
  3. Area rug, which I now have and will bring to our beach place next time we visit. I purchased two small rugs from Dash & Albert, shown rolled up below. I’d love to know which one you prefer, the one with the cream or without?

You can see the original plans for the stylish powder room renovation here and the other bathrooms that have just been completed here. I just love them and they suit our style so well ☺️

  1. Love the rug with the cream!

Lovely Janet! Are you happy with the vanity? What color blue would you describe it as?
    Happy Sunday.

  3. So elegant!! Love it. Both rugs are great, I prefer the cream one best.

  4. Love the rug with the cream!

Use the rug with the cream!

Lovely! Soooo fresh and clean! That’s what all of us “more mature” women want in a bathroom beyond the style! LOL!

I don’t like the cream rug because you don’t have cream in the room. The other one will work better.

    Well done!

  7. I’m wondering Janet, why did you not go further with the bead board that is just behind the vanity? Did I not catch that? My thoughts were to do more of that around the bottom and some delicate wallpaper on the top. Although, I’m still not even tempted to do wallpaper again. I think the rug with the cream in it as your floor tile has that shade as well. What a great job! Love the blue vanity with the gold accents. So pretty!

  8. Yep the cream. Looks more beachy to me.
Re: the wallpaper. I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t jump on it 😊😊 so there must be something that I can’t tell from the photo that would make things look too busy.

Love your style and blog, Janet

  9. Having spent several days recently removing 40 year old wallpaper from our extreme fixer upper…soak, peel, soak and scrub the glue! And I used to love wall paper! Perhaps I will aga in someday..
    Love your bathroom make overs.
I always find inspiration on your blog!

  10. I took down wallpaper in the nineties and never thought I would say this…. but I would totally do an accent wall love the rugs and gold accents it is pretty and the comfort height toilet is awesome

  11. I love the color of the vanity as well and the new peel and stick wallpaper. The rug with cream is my favorite. I don’t even notice the floor now that you have redecorated.

  12. Hi Janet,
I like the rug with the cream as well and think it will tie in with your floor. But if your plans are for a new floor featuring a stark white or gray you might prefer the other. I think the room is lovely as it is but wallpaper is all the rage right now so in small doses like your powder room it would be great. I do love the wallpaper from snowberry home. Once again, great job!

  13. Beautiful renovation! Congratulations! Of all the Pinterest photos you selected, each one had wallpaper that detracted from the loveliness of the area I thought. It became too busy. The towel you have next to your sink is blue and white, not blue and cream. I suggest you use the rug with white to complement. In my opinion living at the beach everything should be casual and not formal. Enjoy each time you visit your condo and God’s beautiful beach! Have fun!

Yes to the wallpaper on an accent wall. Some of the Pinterest pictures take it a little farther and do the entire room. With the bathroom I think the accent wall is sufficient.

  15. Rug without the cream.

Why did you put the bead board only behind the cabinet, and not the whole bathroom?
Why not make it higher so it looks like a back splash? It would protect the wall from water splashes.
